Hi Everyone
I received a special delivery this week – the sample fabric of my dress. I was so excited to see it. It’s been so long since I had seen my dress that I had forgotten what the beading was like and I was so pleased when I saw it.
I rushed upstairs to the wedding wardrobe (where Luke’s not allowed) and got my hair accessory out the box and put it next to the fabric and thought disaster – it looked awful!
I will be the first to admit, I was trying to get a bit ahead of myself when I ordered the hairclip, as I didn’t have the fabric in front of me. So I started my search for my hair accessory all over again.
I thought my wedding fashion knowledge might help me out here and started looking at websites of previous designers we had used on shoots. I could not find anything I liked or that matched – I knew what I wanted but could not find it. I found some beautiful hair pins but they were nearly £400 which I thought was a bit expensive.
I also looked at Kirsten Goss and saw lots of lovely earrings but no hair accessories. I did like the headdress I tried on at Russell’s shop (Blackburn Bridal) but they weren’t quite right! I tried to tell myself maybe I am looking in the wrong places and should try and find something cheaper. I’ve got a budget of about £60 and everything I did like was in the region of £200! The problem I have found is so many of the wedding shops just stock the same old boring tiaras and I want something a little bit different.
I then remembered a designer called Leigh-Anne McCague who I used to feature a lot in YYW magazine, so I looked on her website and found a design I liked but it was £112! The only problem is you can normally only buy her accessories online or through a bridal shop and I wanted to actually go down and see what she had. I decided to give her a call, and she said I could visit her at her workshop and look at all the accessories.
So I took my bridesmaid Laura, as she will be doing my hair on the day. Laura was in her element as she loves making jewellery and she is designing my earrings for the wedding too. I have never seen so many beads/pearls and crystals - it was like an Aladdin’s Cave. Leigh-Anne kept apologising as it’s just her workshop not a shop but I didn’t mind as it was more personal. I tried on lots of different styles on and we finally found the beads and pearls that match my dress perfectly. I am so happy as Leigh-Anne is designing something for me with a mixture of two different headdresses so it will be a personal design for me.
This was all perfect timing as I went to see my hairdresser straight after to discuss styles for the big day. I have found the perfect style I would like but the trouble is my hair is not quite long enough – it probably needs to be about 3 inches longer. But, it could work with a little help from some extensions.
My first though was, this will finally tip Luke over the edge if I go home and tell him I need to spend nearly £400 on extensions. I then had visions of me looking like Jordan with long fake hair and thought no way! Then my hairdresser Mel told me that you can have hair that you can clip it in just to give you volume and a bit of length and get the colour matched to your hair. I spoke to my friend who did the same for her wedding and her hair looked beautiful.
I am still not 100% convinced but I am going to look next week and take the hair get cut into the my hairstyle and see how it looks. But, I do trust Mel as she has been cutting my hair for the last 13 years – I will show you pictures in few weeks!
I am off to Chanel next week with my bridesmaids Charlotte and Laura to have a make up trial. It was a gift from them at Christmas, with some vouchers to get my wedding makeup. We will hopefully find their bridesmaid shoes too!
