Hola from Spain
As I write this week’s diary I am at my Aunty and Uncle’s villa in a small village on the outskirts of Alicante. We have been here for a weekend break, for some relaxation and of course a pre wedding tan. Luke is off to Majorca next week for part 2 of his stag weekend so we thought we would book a sneaky weekend break away to Spain.
You’re probably thinking that I needed to come out to Spain to finalise plans, but we are 6 hours drive from the venue, luckily there is nothing really that we need to do except turn up!
But, I was organised and I did bring out my place cards, guest book and thank you gifts, which my Aunty Sue will bring down to the wedding.
I flew out with my mother in law, Sally and my sister in law Charlotte and 6 months old niece, Francesca who are both my bridesmaids. It was Francesca’s first time on an aeroplane and she was an absolute angel - she was either playing with her toys or sleeping, which was lucky.
We had glorious weather for the first two days, then the clouds came in and it got chillier - so no sunbathing for me. Although, I must say I was doing some cloud bathing on our last day – and I got a sun tan.
We have had a relaxing break with lots of lovely food and time to unwind. It’s been so nice to have a bit of a time out, and not think about the wedding plans too much. Until, Charlotte and I were by the pool and she mentioned about Luke’s buttonhole and whether the guests were having buttonholes, and whether we going to give out the order of service or place them on chairs.
So I then went into overdrive and started worrying as I complete forgot about buttonholes. I know it probably sounds quite a small thing to start worrying about – but I did. I had to get a notepad out and start writing a list of things I needed to do and went through everything day but day for the weekend. I think I might delegate a few jobs to Char – as she was the one who made me start worrying!
Sally and I solved the problem of catering for our party and we have decided to just go for cold meats, cheeses and French stick and people can help themselves. As the number of guests is going up, the hog roast will not feed everyone, so the plan had now changed. I also ordered all my decorations for the party from ebay – I found some bunting that was £30 for 60ft, which I thought was quite reasonable.
I also found some fiesta white bunting from Cox and Cox, which is only £12 for 40 metres. We are also going to have vases with fresh hydrangeas on the tables, which we will pick from the garden to try and save some pennies –the costs just seem to keep going up!
Prior to us flying out on Thursday, I had a bit of worry with getting Charlotte’s bridesmaids shoes. I ordered her a pair online, as the pair I had previously bought her were too small. I received an email from Barratts, saying that they were out of stock and no longer available.
Me being me, I started panicking remembering the nightmare we had trying to find the bridesmaid shoes. I called customer services and they told me I had to basically call around all the Barratts stores to track a pair down, so I refused as was going to Spain that night, and spoke to a very nice man called Adam who will hopefully track a pair down for me. So I will find out when I get home if a pair of shoes waiting for me – fingers crossed.
Have a good week
