Each time I sit down to write my diary I keep thinking another week gone – I know I keep going on about it but time really is flying.
I received the call I have been waiting for this week from Mandy at Blackburn Bridal Couture to say my wedding dress has arrived and I needed to book my fitting. I found my dress in November and cannot wait to see it. So I have booked to go in at the beginning of May, which seems like ages away but I need some time to get in shape with the bride’s diet and my fitness regime!
As you know I used to work on the fashion team at YYW and had always said I would get married in a David Fielden dress as he was my favourite designer. But, my bridesmaids wanted us to go to a few shops and make the most of going dress shopping. I found a day when my bridesmaids were free and started making appointments. I booked to go to Vera Wang at Selfridges, Browns Bride, Jenny Packham and David Fielden.
My first appointment was at Browns Bride, unfortunately I couldn’t get in on my planned date so I went one evening after work on my own. I must admit I did feel a bit vulnerable as I was on my own and there was already a bride in the store in the biggest dress I have ever seen! I got asked to fill out a questionnaire with my personal details, wedding venue and budget.
I knew the majority of the dresses were out of my price range but I was looking more at the off the peg dresses. But, since leaving the magazine their prices must have gone up, as there was nothing on the shop floor that I could try on! So I immediately felt uncomfortable but the assistant said she had some sale dresses that might be suitable.
I tried a David Fielden dress on that just did not fit, then I tried a beautiful Colette Dinnigan dress but it just wasn’t right. So I left the shop feeling a bit sad as my first shopping experience was a bit of a disaster. To be honest I should never really have gone there and I think it was a mistake to go after work and on my own!
I quickly changed my shopping trip and decided to cancel my Vera Wang appointment as I knew that her dresses were over my budget and I did not want to go through that again. I then remembered my friend Russell (who I used to work with at YYW) had a bridal boutique in Blackheath and booked to go and see him the following Saturday.
I took my bridesmaids with me for my exciting shopping trip. I can honestly say it was one of the best moments of planning the wedding. I was so excited but nervous and it was a completely different experience to Browns. I was thoroughly spoilt we had the whole shop to ourselves and Russell & Mandy were fantastic. I know Russell is a friend but I just felt so at ease and didn’t feel rushed and I wasn’t being judged on how much money I had to spend.
We were in there for nearly 3 hours –I tried on lots of different styles of dresses, and after finding the style that suited my figure I found the one. I obviously cannot tell you about it as it’s a surprise. But, there were lots of tears not only from me, but my bridesmaids - even Russell at one point! Before I ordered the dress I did think that maybe I should go and look at other designers but I knew I had found the one. I didn’t order it that day, Russell recommended I go home and think about it over the weekend. But I was straight on the phone Monday morning ready to order!
I was on cloud nine for the next week I couldn’t stop smiling and kept looking at my dress on the designers website. Role on May 8th when I get to see and wear my dress again!
I had a bit of pampering this weekend when I went for my monthly facial. It’s well worth it, just an hour to switch off and unwind even though we did talk about the wedding throughout the whole hour. My Demagogica tester products also ran out this week, so I did what I knew I would and bought the products – only the cleanser, toner and moisturiser. So we had a night in on Saturday night!
I’m going to the hairdressers this week for a haircut and to discuss possible styles for the wedding. I need to start looking for some simple hairstyle ideas, as my bridesmaid Laura will be doing my hair on the day.
