Weightloss tips from Rosemary Conley
The golden rules to losing weight successfully...
1) Always eat breakfast
It will set you up for the day, help you maintain concentration and prevent high-fat snacking when you feel desperately hungry at 11 o’clock
2) Avoid eating between meals
Eat three good, low fat, low Gi meals a day. By choosing low gi foods you will feel fuller for longer and be less inclined to snack between meals
3) Watch your portion sizes
Find easy measuring ‘servers’ to help you with portion sizes, like a cup that holds your perfect portion of cereal. Day by day, just cut down your portions a little and soon your body won’t want to eat so much.
4) Don’t drink alcohol in excess
Alcohol in moderation is good for us but in excess will definitely cause weight gain and possible health risks. If you enjoy a hectic social life, spread out your drinks and drink plenty of water in between.
5) Cut the fat in your food
The simplest rule of thumb is to only buy foods with a maximum of 5% fat content. Check on the nutrition panel on the foods you select and, if the figure in the 100gm column is five or less, it’s OK.
6) Drink plenty of water
We need to drink plenty of water every day. If you’re not a huge water fan, drink flavoured varieties or mix with low-calorie drinks to add flavour. You’ll feel fuller (and so will eat less) and its crucial for the health of your kidneys.
7) Do not use fat when cooking
Using a non-stick frying pan or wok will save the need to add any fat to your cooking. Preheat the pan so that the meat sizzles when you add it to it.
8) Avoid chocolates, crisps, cakes and pastries
Put simply, if you have a full portion of any of these each day then you won’t lose weight. So cut down, or cut out completely! You’ll notice an improvement in your health as well as a reduction on the scales.
9) Dine out thoughtfully
You don’t have to have a starter and a pudding. Make a choice. Select lower fat options from the menu such as anything grilled or roasted. Ask for your vegetables to be served without butter and fill up on them. If you fancy a dessert but it is really high fat and high in calories, share it with someone else.
