Wedding dress: silhouettes
Your dress silhouette will be your outline, the shape you will take on the most special day of your life. Check out our guide to choosing the right one for you.
A-line
A-line dresses are the most flattering, so it's no surprise that they are the most popular shape. Whether you're tall, short, curvy or straight, an A-line dress that gently flares from the shoulders down will make you look fabulous.
Ballgown
Ballgown styles accentuate the feminine hourglass shape with a narrowly-fitted waistline and a full, flowing skirt. Waistlines may be V-shaped and slightly higher or lower on the hips. This style looks best on tall women.
Empire
Empire designs are cut a bit like a maternity dress with a high waistline that starts just below the bust. The skirt is usually slender and graceful and the style is particularly well-suited to small-busted girls, as they help to make more of less.
Princess
On a princess-style dress, vertical panels of fabric follow the natural contour of the body. This is slightly more dramatic than an A-line design, but equally flattering.
Sheath
Simple and elegant, sheath dresses follow natural curves from shoulder to hem. They often cling and many are strapless or backless. You need to have an athletic figire rather than a curvy body to get away with this style.
