The tropical island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean is a magnet for honeymooners thanks to its five-star retreats and average winter temperatures of around 34C. Although newlyweds flock here for the stunningly romantic resorts including Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, One&Only Le Saint Geran and Legends, there is much to keep couples entertained when they venture out and about.
Go shopping in Grand Bay, catch some rays on the island's best beach at Ile aux Cerfs, marvel at the coloured earth of Camarel, stroll round the wonderful Pamplemousse Botanical Gardens, visit an ylang ylang plantation and take a trek to the Black River Gorge. Simply driving along the roads through sugar cane fields and tea plantations is a thrill.
The island excels itself when it comes to romantic resorts. If it's a private villa with it's own pool and butler service - no problem. If it's a top-notch spa and celebrity chef cuisine you're after, it's all here. The competition to attract honeymooners is high, so don't be surprised if you are treated like VIPs with champagne on arrival, flowers in your room and candlelit dinners on the beach.
It's no surprise that many A-listers have topped up their tans here including Jodie Kidd and Linda Evangelista as well as Prince William and the Duchess of York.
