Confessions of a shape-up-bride
Our resident My Special K blogger Emma hits the hen night
Three weeks today, I'll be having my hair and make-up done on my big day in beautiful, sunny Croatia. One of friends Lana is doing it for me and she always looks ultra-glam. To be honest, I trust her more than a beautician I dont know. She came over yesterday afternoon for the trial; we laid out all of our make-up on my living room floor and had a two-hour make-up session while listening to the wedding music that Dave has chosen for our evening disco weddings really are a lot fun! I'm actually going to really miss being engaged.
But recently I've had other things on my mind; Ive just had my hen party. My closest friends have been very busy over the past six months, planning a fun-filled weekend for me and my 17 hens. As I am the first to get married in my group, there was a lot of excitement in the run up to the weekend. My first clue was a first class ticket to my hen which arrived in the post, covered in sparkly gems and including a funny little poem with clues about the weekend itself. It was strange not knowing what they had planned, as I usually dictate which restaurants and bars we go to, so leaving my hen do in their hands made me a little nervous. I shouldnt have worried; we had a fabulous day in the sun followed by cocktails and lots of silly dancing!
One of my friends hosted the party at her house on the beach. She decorated the house and garden with colourful bunting, lanterns, balloons and also hundreds of photos of me, which were everywhere! She had even hired a marquee and bubble machine and had a hen cake made! We spent the day gossiping, feasting on a delicious home-made Turkish meze and barbecue shish kebabs, accompanied by endless bottles of iced champagne. It was amazing! We also had a very funny challenge to complete in the afternoon. We had to get into teams and complete random tasks such as counting the beach huts along the seashore, drinking in various pubs along the harbour (with photographic evidence..!). We also had to collect items along the way think a bottle of cherryade, a fish and chip wrapper and, last but not least, we had to take photos of us skinny dipping in the sea. I honestly didnt think anyone would complete that part of the challenge, but it was actually the most fun part of the day very liberating to run into the cold sea, although you'll be pleased to hear we kept our underwear on!
Despite the decadent weekend, I am, of course, still following the My Special K diet and still feeling very positive about it all. My last dress fitting proved that it's working she had to take in a few more inches, whoopee!
The seamstress was actually quite shocked and asked me which diet I was following. She said I would have to stop losing weight now, as she can't take the dress in anymore, so I've decided not to be massively strict in the next few weeks and allow myself a few champagne cocktails at the least. I have started sensibly adapting the evening meals provided by the plan, as I really love to cook and invent new dishes.
The diet plan has given me clear guidelines about what to eat and what not to eat, so I feel confident I'm not going off-track by adapting things a little. Last night I made a kidney bean and tomato stew with lashings of garlic, paprika and chilli. I served it with roasted sweet potatoes, chopped spring onion, fresh herbs and a squeeze of lemon juice it was delicious. Funnily enough, Dave commented last night that he's really enjoying being on the My Special K diet too, as I'm cooking different things and he likes staying healthy. He cycles 20 miles a day, is very tall and slim and so he does need to eat more than me. I usually make him a cheese sandwich to eat before dinner and then give him double portions for his lunch, so we're both happy!
I'll update you all on my return from Croatia as Mrs Newman. Wish me luck!
