Light up your wedding day
Sam Akester, Creative Director at Wise Productions, sheds light on how to give your big day that special glow
A wise move... well placed lighting can make or break a wedding venue
Its your day and having forked out big bucks for the photographer, have you stopped to think about the lighting you and your nearest and dearest will be shot in? Make this your time to shine, with a little help from the lighting experts at Wise Productions.
With the right amount of illumination in all the right places, even the most simple of venues can be transformed into a palace fit for a princess. Creative director Sam Akester shares his tricks of the lighting trade, so you can shimmer in style from day-to-night on your W-day...
DO use lighting to create warmth: Touches of stronger colours with neutrals, like golds and apricots, can create a lovely, warm atmosphere. It makes for interesting photos too - just make sure the bright colours you choose arent too overpowering.
DO highlight the smaller details: Illuminate the finer points, such as floral displays and table centres to pulls all the little things together, and give the reception venue a seamless glow.
DONT use green and yellow: Green should never be seen and in the lighting world, neither should yellow! It's a tricky one to work alongside skin tone and can put food in the wrong light. However, if green and yellow is your theme, go for green table linen and seat pads, while keeping the lighting gold and white. On a happier note, green lighting does works perfectly outside if you're looking to spruce up a garden.
DO create intimacy: Pin spotlighting is a lovely way to create a soft and romantic mood at any sit-down dinner, whatever the size of your wedding. This type of light will also give table centres the attention they deserve!
DONT over-do it: Discretion and subtle touches are the key to achieving production-perfect wedding lighting. Try not to embellish everything, or you'll run the risk of lighting up the reception like an over-decorated Christmas tree not cool. Less is always more.
DO create a pattern: Sometimes, an elegant lighting pattern used to wash over a wedding marquee or venue can be quite effective. You can echo patterns and shapes in the floristry and even emphasise subtle details in the brides dress. Here, the possibilities are endless.
