How many flowers do I need for a wedding?

Not sure how many flowers to order for your wedding? Here's a flower checklist, from boutonnieres to bouquets.

Meeting your florist soon but not sure what to ask them for? It's good to come prepared with a list of flowers you'll need, as well as an idea of budget so they can help you stay within it.

THE BEST NON FLORAL BOUQUETS

Obviously, certain factors may vary. It could be that your venue is so pretty it doesn't need flowers. It's also worth bearing in mind that to cut costs, flowers in the church/registry office can be moved to the reception too, and your bridesmaids' bouquets can decorate the top table. 

In any case, here is a guide of flowers you should take with you when you meet the florist.

Wedding party flowers

  • Bride's bouquet
  • Bridesmaids' bouquets
  • Flower girls' bouquets (if having)
  • Tossing bouquet (if you want to keep your own)
  • Groom's boutonniere
  • Ushers' boutonnieres  
  • Mother of the bride's boutonniere
  • Mother of the groom's boutonniere 
  • Father of the groom's boutonniere
  • Father of the bride's boutonniere

Extras: Boutonnieres for the grandparents.

Ceremony flowers

  • Altar arrangement
  • Pew or chair arrangements or aisle decorations
  • Petals to be used as confetti

Extras: Entryway arrangements, floral arch.

Reception flowers

  • Top table arrangement
  • Table centrepieces
  • Dessert station flowers
  • Flowers for the wedding cake

Extras: Flowers for the bar, bride and groom chair decorations, flowers for the car and flowers to display other rooms of the venue.
