After three years together, Martin proposed to Vix on Valentines Day 2009. “He said it was the one day he knew I would never expect him to do it,” says Vix. “He’d set out a champagne picnic in the garden and used a Haribo ring, it was a complete surprise and very romantic!” The couple married on 24th April 2010 at the Captains Club, Dorset. “We wanted somewhere that reflected our personalities, with a relaxed atmosphere and great service.”

“The dress was a Grecian-style Jenny Packham design made from chiffon, which was a must have for me as I love the way it flows,” explains Vix. “I wanted to feel like me on the day so I want for something less traditional. It was so simple but still had the wow factor due to the crystal detail.”

Vix and Martin - the accessories

Vix wore a pair of cream shoes with a stunning crystal bow from Dune. “I actually found my shoes before my dress! I was shopping with my sister and when we both spotted the same pair I just knew I had to have them. I also had an amazing hairpiece from Polly Edwards which was two pearl and crystal flowers.”

The bridesmaids both wore pewter dresses from Karen Millen with matching pearl bracelets and vintage hairclips. The flowergirl wore a white Monsoon dress with crystal detail, while the ‘mini ushers’ all had waistcoats and shirts from Vertbaudet.

Vix and Martin - the stationery

“We made all the stationery ourselves on simple pearl coloured card,” says Vix. “The invitations were in the style of a film advertisement, inviting guests to ‘the wedding of the year’. Our table names were romantic movies with a famous quote written underneath. We didn’t plan the film theme, it just seemed to evolve!” The nameplates were vintage keys Vix bought online, with the name attached by a pewter ribbon.

Vix and Martin - special touches

“We wanted the day to be informal so we decided not to have menus on each table but rather a chalk board on an easel like you would see in a rustic pub. The table plan was a vintage frame, which we had restored and hung the cards from. We also had a vintage birdcage for people to post their comments in, rather than a traditional guest book.”

Vix and Martin - the reception

“We had a band, the Torn Off Strips who were amazing. They played everything from Take That to Kings of Leon and Lady Gaga – they absolutely made our evening. At one point, my girls and I grabbed the instruments and mics and had a go ourselves! It was a huge party, we drank the bar dry!”

What Vix Says

Dorset, wedding, seaside, relaxed, personal, northern exposure what vix says

“Be unique! Get inspiration from others but make it your own. I\'m so proud of all the personal touches we made for the day. Also try and negotiate everything, it’s so easy for the spending to get out of control and remember the important things – the day is about celebrating your love for one another and sharing it with the special people on your life.”
