Heidi and Rob - The Proposal

“We met at a mutual friend’s birthday,” says Heidi. “We had a few mutual friends but had never met. The next day Rob asked a friend, Marina (who ended up being our bridesmaid) for my number and we met up in the City for a drink. The rest is history!

“Rob proposed on holiday in New York. A limo picked us up from the airport, so I knew it was something special, but had to wait until dinner at Nobu before he got down on one knee. I interrogated him about whether he was serious before I said yes! We married in May at Blair Atholl in Perthshire, Scotland.”

“We’d stopped at Blair Castle once on a driving holiday and thought the place was enchanting. There are peacocks in the castle grounds and they came to sit by the car to feel the warmth of the engine! It was one of the first places we visited together as a couple so it was very special to us.

“It was a traditional wedding and the Highland backdrop meant it had to have a classic Scottish flavour! We chose ivory roses and purple thistles as the inspiration for the colour scheme – they represented England and Scotland.”

Heidi and Rob - The Ceremony

“The wedding itself was in Blair Atholl Kirk – we were in complete agreement that we wanted a church wedding and the minister at Blair Atholl was lovely. The church was decorated with ivory roses, freesia and purple stocks. I felt very nervous during the ceremony – everyone was looking at us which is quite unnerving!”

Heidi and Rob - The Dress

“I wore an ivory dress by Elisa Hamilton. She made it especially for me as I hadn’t found the dress I wanted after extensive searching! I felt wonderful in it. I wore a custom-made tiara by Envy Tiaras of Guernsey (now Beadin Marvellous!) and a veil by the Wedding Veil Shop. My shoes were really special – Christian Louboutins! My jewellery was borrowed from my mum and bridesmaid. I carried a teardrop bouquet by our florist Farthings At Home, which included ivory roses, freesia and stephanotis. My bridesmaids wore full-length purple dresses by Dessy and my flowergirls wore ivory dresses from Debenhams.”

“Rob wore a custom-made ivory kilt, which looked really smart, and his groomsmen all wore tartan kilts too.”

Heidi and Rob - The Reception

“The reception was held in the castle ballroom. The ballroom is decorated with tapestries, paintings and lots of antlers so we kept our own decoration quite low-key. The tables had simple ivory roses and purple votives on them, while the top table had purple stocks in its arrangement. We gave male guests mini bottles of whisky, for the Scotch connection! Ladies received the traditional five sugared almonds.

“We used the castle’s caterer and they provided a feast of canapés (including lobster tartlets, Asian beef salad and mini steak sandwiches) followed by vegetarian haggis for a starter, a main of salmon or beef and a delicious raspberry delice for dessert. Our chocolate, vanilla and sponge cake was from Waitrose.”
