Corinne puts her first meeting with Ben down to lucky timing. “A musician friend invited me to one of his gigs (even though I didn’t really fancy a night out) and as we caught up over drinks, he asked why I was single and what kind of guys I liked,” she explains. “Just at that moment, an attractive dark haired guy crossed the bar in front of me and I said ‘…well, he’s nice’.” It turned out that Corinne’s attractive man was also in a band – and actually headlining that night – so her friend swiftly started a bit of matchmaking behind the scenes. “We were introduced at the end of the night and, although Ben had to rush off (his car was parked on a double yellow and the bassist was standing guard!), he asked me on a date and the rest is history.”

Six years later, Ben chose a small chapel at the top of Menorca’s Monte Toro to ask Corinne to marry him. “He took two shells from his pocket and inside I found my grandmother’s beautiful engagement ring which was particularly poignant as she had died the year before,” says Corinne. Initially the couple toyed with the idea of going back to Menorca for their wedding, but eventually decided to stay in the UK and hold the whole day in the glamorous Bingham Hotel in Richmond (thebingham.co.uk).

As a nod to Ben’s musical roots, Corinne created all the stationery based on an All You Need is Love theme which also featured stars, butterflies and birds. “I designed the table numbers myself which we stood in vintage-style silver holders from Graham and Green (grahamandgreen.co.uk),” says Corinne, “and we made confetti cones from covers of old fashion magazines which we arranged in a white wicker basket."

Centrepieces were understated and elegant vintage and white hydrangeas in mirrored goldfish bowl vases provided by florist Nikki TIbbles (wildatheart.com). “Hydrangeas are graphic and impactful, yet very cost effective,” says Corinne. “It gave us a contemporary feel which we complemented with chunky square tea light holders provided by the venue. The Bingham worked well for us because it had an elegant members’ club feel and lovely furniture, which we knew we wouldn’t have to style too much.”

To keep the All You Need Is Love theme running throughout the day, Corinne decorated her own table plan design with a pink glitter Love sign from Paperchase (paperchase.co.uk). “We also filled the reception with silk flowers from Sia (selfridges.com), black mosaic glass tea light holders from Zara (zara.com) and two glitterballs from Paperchase to give the dance floor some sparkle.”

Design director Corinne is no stranger to fashion styling and was very keen to find a dress that suited her silhouette without breaking the bank. “I was going for vintage Hollywood glamour with a rock twist,” she says. “I chose a Pearce II Fionda dress from Debenhams (debenhams.com) which I knew I could accessorise with bold jewellery pieces.”

When it came to choosing shoes, at first Corinne struggled to find the perfect pair. “My main consideration was to be comfortable for the day and not to tower over Ben (we are nearly the same height) although he wouldn’t have minded,” says Corinne. “ In the end I went with these lovely shoes from Henry Kaye (henrykaye.co.uk).”

Corinne was also determined to make a statement with her accessories. She chose a faux-fur stole from Coast (coast-stores.com) and finished her look with a butterfly headband from Butler and Wilson (butlerandwilson.co.uk).

Her piece de resistance was a dramatic cuff in a star design, also from Butler and Wilson (butlerandwilson.co.uk). “I think my accessories were more expensive than my entire outfit!” Connie admits.

Like Corinne’s dress, Ben’s outfit also came from Designers at Debenhams – a black dinner suit with satin trim (“inspired by Tom Ford!” says Corinne).

To say thank you, Corinne treated her bridesmaid to a mother-of-pearl brooch and a black beaded clutch that matched her own from Graham and Green (grahamandgreen.co.uk)

Florist Nikki Tibbles (wildatheart.com) designed Corinne’s bouquet of pale pink roses to suit her neutral theme of pale grey with pink and white.

Corinne gave cake maker Lily Jones (lilyvanilli.com) a mood board for the cake, which used features like her star cuff as inspiration. “It was a red velvet cake (it tastes like chocolate) decorated with pale pink icing and seasonal berries with a cluster of sugar stars in the top tier,” explains Corinne.

The cake display also featured a mix of vanilla and red velvet cupcakes to round off the wedding breakfast – if anyone still had room! – of sea bream, Scottish beef, and poached pear with vanilla panna cotta.

The theme of the celebration was glamour all the way, so no surprises then that the bride arrived in style in a blue and white 1979 Lincoln Continental MK V that belonged to Ben’s godfather.

“It’s a really good idea to have some sort of prop for the wedding photos,” says Corinne. “Many people find it unnatural to pose – we’re not models after all – so I bought a bunch of silver foil star helium balloons which meant guests found it easier to relax, plus it gave our photos lots of energy.”
