How they met
Richard and Kate met on an online dating site in December 2014.

"Richard asked me out on the proviso that I educated him on Nottingham's cocktail bar scene!" reminisces Kate.

"We went on our first date on Friday 16th January 2015 and we ended up going on another two dates that weekend. It's fair to say we were both pretty smitten!"
Richard proposed with this stunning engagement ring on Christmas Eve 2015, taking Kate completely by surprise, despite both sets of parents having known for months.

"It was a cold and windy morning but Richard insisted we take our dog, Maisie, for a walk," shares Kate. "I reluctantly agreed, and we'd only been walking for a few minutes when he got down on one knee and took out the most beautiful engagement ring."

Richard and Kate held their ceremony at the St. James Hotel in Nottingham, with an intimate wedding party of 20 guests. They held their evening reception in the same location, with 100 additional guests joining the celebration.

"We chose the St. James Hotel as we wanted an urban venue that was a bit different, plus, they had a wonderful penthouse for the wedding night," explains Kate.

"We chose World Service, Nottingham, for our post ceremony drinks and wedding breakfast," Kate continues. "We both love good quality food and wanted to treat our family and friends to something really special."
The photographer, Sarah Illingworth of Mirror Imaging Photography, captured all sorts of intimate moments on the wedding day, like this beautiful shot of Kate getting ready.

"We stumbled across Sarah's website and absolutely fell in love with her photographs," explains Kate. "We were looking for someone who had experience photographing weddings in an urban setting and she really fit the bill."
Sottero and Midgley wedding dress
Katie opted for the Beckett dress by Sottero and Midgley, purchased from Bridal Suite in Nottingham.

The art-deco inspired dress had an illusion neckline, and a stunning flowing train. It had beautiful beaded embellishment on the bodice and scattered delicately around the skirt too.

Kate accessorised her Sottero and Midgley wedding dress with a crystal and pearl embellished hair comb by Highland Angel, a delicate necklace and a diamond tennis bracelet and earrings, courtesy of Marlows in Birmingham's jewellery quarter.
Rachel Simpson wedding shoes
The bride chose to wear ivory satin peep-toe shoes, courtesy of Rachel Simpson in the Matilda style.

The nude shoes were trimmed with silver for a little extra wedding day sparkle.
The bridesmaids' dresses
Kate's three bridesmaids all wore outfits of their own choice, in keeping with the laid-back theme of the wedding.

The ladies all wore chic half-up, half-down hair styles and subtle yet stylish make-up.
The groom and groomsmen's ensembles
Richard looked delightfully dapper in a suave royal blue Paul Smith suit, a dusky pink bowtie and pocket square from Ties Planet and vibrant navy and pink socks from Happy Socks - the groomsmen wore the quirky socks, too.
Richard wore a pair of personalised cufflinks, engaged with the date of their meeting, back in 2015 - we love this sentimental addition to his ensemble.
Richard's rose buttonhole perfectly complemented his dusky pink pocket square and bowtie, and tied in with Kate's bridal bouquet.

Rebecca Caddell of Floral Deco Wedding Flowers created all of the floral arrangements for the day.
The bridal bouquet
Kate had a textured bouquet, with thistles, berries, poppy heads, sea lavender ranunculus and astilbe.
Dusky pink wedding day decorations
Kate and Richard decorated their wedding with an elegant mixture of lanterns and candelabra table centrepieces decorated with candles and silk flowers from Enchanted Decor.

Rebecca Caddell decorated the tables with an eclectic mix of floral table arrangements, interspersed with candles and tea lights.

All of the decorations came together to create a flawless, relaxed aesthetic.
The wedding (cup) cakes
Richard and Kate eschewed the traditional wedding cake in favour of a tower of cupcakes, in a variety of flavours.

The cakes, created by Strawberry Cupcakes, were chosen in a variety of different flavours, including vanilla, strawberry and prosecco, lemon meringue pie and cookies and cream.

The cake table was adorned with illuminated silk flower letters, from Notonthehighstreet.com.
Kate and Richard's wedding day had an extra special attendee - their Norwich Terrier Maisie.

"She joined us after the ceremony for a photoshoot," says Kate. "It was so unexpected and it added a really fun and unique element to the day. Maisie was there when Richard proposed so it was only right she was there to share our big day."
The most memorable moment
"We loved taking time out for out photoshoot together," explains Kate.

"It gave us a chance to take everything in and appreciate how the day had come together."
Planning advice for other couples
"Don't be afraid to go small!" enthuses Kate.

"Initially we were worried about offending people by only inviting them to an evening celebration but we're so glad we stuck to our guns."

"The intimate day time celebration was so special and memorable. Coupled with the big evening reception party, it gave us the best of both worlds."
