Katy Perry and Russell Brand Get Married
in a super-luxe Indian wedding
We had an inkling offbeat A-listers Katy Perry and Russell Brands wedding, on Saturday 23 October 2010, might not be all church bells and princess white dress, but even their big days fortune-telling parrot (yes, really; unless MailOnline are messing with us) couldnt have guessed the partys most determined gatecrasher wouldnt be an über-keen pap, but a man-eating tiger.
Apparently the big cat rumoured to have killed three people in the last two years jumped two walls and got 50ft from the celeb couple, before staff at wedding venue the Aman-i-Khas resort, Rajasthan, India, managed to clear it out.
The menacing feline wasnt the only animal or even the only tiger that got a look-in at Mr and Mrs Brands luxe bash: Russell reportedly gave Katy a female tiger as a wedding gift, while she gave him a baby elephant (both will stay at the resorts national park, where the flush couples cash will pay for their upkeep), and the groom arrived at the ceremony on horseback an Indian tradition in a procession including elephants and camels.
The couple apparently said I do sat in gold wedding thrones under a traditional wedding canopy covered in marigolds and red and yellow ribbons with Katy wearing a blue sari (the first of a bunch that she switched on the day, including an Elie Saab Haute Couture number) and Russell in a kurta, which he swapped later on for a long, embroidered coat.
Bride and groom both reportedly made a speech and tucked into a traditional Indian and vegan wedding breakfast, before they and their 85 guests (said to include David Baddiel, plus Jonathan Ross and his wife Jane Goldman, although Katys mate and hen party co-conspirator, Rihanna, couldnt come) were treated to customary Indian music; fire jugglers; fire eaters; snake charmers; and dancers, including Indian supermodel Jesse Randhawa cutting a rug with choreographer hubby Sandhip Soparrkar.
A statement for the happy couple said: The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples closest family and friends, was performed by a Christian minister and long-time friend of [Katys] family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of northern India.
They reportedly followed up their wedding which was kicked off days earlier as guests went on safari around the resort's national park with an East meets West-themed reception on Sunday 24 October at Taj Rambagh Palace Hotel. Indian classical dancers and even P Diddy were expected to perform. Altogether now: 'jealous'.
