Nadia and Nick first met when they worked together – although their relationship didn’t blossom for some time… “Despite working in the same area, it took a year before we finally plucked up the courage to talk to each other!” reveals the bride.\r\nAfter the two had been dating for almost 12 months, Nick proposed at their favourite local restaurant in Haworth, and they became man and wife on 6 September 2009.

The Dress

The bride had her dream wedding gown specially made by Linda from Dresses at No.9.

“I tried on so many dresses and none felt right, so I found a local dress-maker,” says Nadia. “Linda was fantastic and created my perfect dress. It was a strapless, ivory silk dupion gown with a polka-dot lace overlay, a huge petticoat and matching oversized bow at the back.”\r\nNadia’s sister Sofia was bridesmaid and wore a hot pink strapless dress by Dessy. “The colour looked fab and was exactly what I wanted,” says the bride.

The Flowers

Nadia’s sister Sofia at Ivy took care of the wedding flowers. “I knew I could leave them up to her and that they would be amazing,” says Nadia. “My bouquet was made up purely of pink freesias as they are my favourite flowers, and Sofia wrapped the stems in ivory polka-dot ribbon to match my dress.”

The ceremony

The couple tied the knot at their local church in Haworth, at the top of Main Street. “We love living in Haworth so it was the obvious choice,” says Nadia. “Driving up to the church on the day was amazing – all the locals and tourists were taking photos and waving! We liked the fact that, when we walk up Main Street after the wedding, we would have a constant reminder of the day.\r\n“We both felt really happy during the ceremony. We’d chosen hymns that everybody knew, so it was great to see everybody smiling and singing along.”

The Decorations

“The church is very pretty inside so we kept decoration to a minimum,” says Nadia. “We used galvanized half buckets filled with pink flowers and raffia hearts tied with pink ribbon on alternate pew ends. They looked gorgeous.”

The Transport

“We hired a vintage bus from Yesteryear to take guests from the church to the reception venue,” says Nadia.

The reception

The couple celebrated their reception The Alma Inn in nearby Laneshawbridge. “We were looking for something not far from the church that allowed us to do what we wanted,” says Nadia. “From our first meeting, the staff at the inn were fantastic. We hired the whole place which worked really well, as we had the Garden Room where we ate and did the speeches, and also the cosy lounges where guests could relax.

“Each table had a galvanized bucket on it wrapped in either pink or ivory polka-dot ribbon and filled with flowers. We also placed two cream lanterns on each table, along with pink floral napkins.\r\n“I also wanted to add a few Ukrainian touches throughout the day, as my family is Ukrainian. On each table, we placed bottles of Ukrainian beer for the men and boxes of retro sweets for the female guests. And after one of the speeches, my godfather stood up and started singing a traditional Ukrainian celebration song, along with the rest of the Ukrainian guests – it was such a lovely surprise.”

Personal Touches

“Photos featured heavily as part of the decorations,” says Nadia. “We put some old photos around the venue, and in the main function room we placed photos of the people who were no longer with us (including Nick’s late grandparents on his dad’s side, pictured). Family members really appreciated this little touch.”

The Wedding Breakfast

Instead of the traditional wedding breakfast and cake, the couple decided to do their day their own fun way. “We didn’t want the traditional three-course meal, so instead of a starter we opted for substantial canapés including mini pizzas, samosas, mini toad-in-the-holes and fruit kebabs,” says the bride. \r\n“For the main course, guests had the choice of fish and chips, steak and ale pie, or cheese and onion pie, served with vegetables and chunky chips. And we had pink butterfly buns instead of a wedding cake, which were very popular! They were made by my sister’s boyfriend’s mother and arranged on lots of different cake stands.”

The dessert

In lieu of a traditional dessert, the couple hired a vintage ice-cream van from Sunset Ices. “It served a selection of fresh dairy ice-cream with various cones and toppings!” says Nadia.

The party

After a fun-filled day, it was time for the couple and their guests to strut their stuff as a DJ got the party started. “We hired a ‘star-lit’ light-up dance floor says Nadia. “It looked fantastic and went down really well with the guests. Our first dance was to L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole and it was perfect. People even thought we’d had dancing lessons, which we both found hilarious!”
