The Couple

Alex and Tim met at university and dated for a couple of years. They split up when they both went travelling: Tim to South America and Alex to Africa. “After a few months we both coincidentally headed for Australia,” says Alex. “Tim called my mum to find out where in the world I was – then surprised me at the bar where I worked! We dated for a while and then went our separate ways again.” Their paths then crossed for a second time in Bali. “For that to happen twice felt like destiny and we’ve been together ever since,” she says.

The Venue

The wedding reception was held in a marquee, hired from Coopers Marquees (01759 380190). “We thought that a marquee would give us maximum opportunity to make every touch our own,” says Alex. It was decorated in shades of white to give it a dreamy, whimsical feel.

The Style

“Tim and I really wanted a wedding that was personal and unique to us,” says Alex, who runs her own event planning business Songbird Events (07773 392505, www.songbirdevents.com). The tables gave Alex and her business partner Amanda the opportunity to showcase their creative flair. “For two or three weeks before the wedding my sister Lucie, Amanda and I scoured antiques markets for accessories that would fit the vintage, romantic theme for the wedding,” says Alex.

The Details

Anything vintage, romantic, eclectic and fun was snapped up and used to create different table settings that each told a story. For example “Dressing for Dinner” was a nod to Alex’s love of fashion and was decorated with an antique tailor’s dummy, pearls, Chanel perfume bottles and antique-looking roses.

The Bridemaids

Alex was attended by her sister Lucie, her niece Meg, friends Amanda, Caroline and Sally, Sally’s daughter Amelie and Tim’s niece Millie. The adults’ dresses were from The Cross (020 7727 6760) while Amelie and Millie’s dresses were from Monsoon (0870 412 9000). The fairy wings were from a London ballet shop (for similar try www.youandyourweddingshopping.co.uk).

The three-tier chocolate cake with white chocolate icing by Hirst Bakery in Knaresborough (01423 865788) was a wedding gift from family friends.
