Real wedding: A botanical bonanza at Syon Park, Brentford
How it all began...

"We met at Hampstead Carnival in the summer of 2012 – we were both queuing up at a food station and got chatting," says Marga on how she first met her future husband Bikash.

Bikash proposed to Marga on Valentine's Day (say it now, aww!). He chose the privacy of their own home as the setting to pop the question. "It was all really romantic," Marga says. "We had spoken about getting married, but the moment still came as such a surprise. Bikash is from Nepal, so we then headed to a Nepalese restaurant to celebrate."

Marga and Bikash tied the knot at the beautiful Syon Park - just over the river from Kew Gardens.

"We loved the contrast of the history of the grand manor house, where the ceremony was held, with the natural beauty of the grounds and the Great Conservatory, which houses exotic plant life," Marga explains.

Setting the theme

The botanical venue inspired the big day theme: blue florals. The couple's wedding planner, Knot & Pop, prepared Save the Dates with blue flower sprigs attached. "The design then continued through the signage, the foliage table plan and the menus," says Marga.

There were lots of special memories from the day, and getting ready with her maids was one of Marga's top moments. "There were so many special moments, and all so different - from early-morning nerves and getting ready with the girls, to the lovely ceremony and seeing all of our friends and family (and one another!) for the first time."

Marga wore Peter Langner, from Browns Bride. How did she know it was The One? "It’s like meeting your husband: when you know, you just know!"

The ceremony was impeccably stylish - aisle chairs were dressed with flowers, and ceremony fans (finished with blue ribbon, of course) had details of the ceremony and the plans for the day written on them.

"We also had a symbolic sand exchange, which saw two different colours of sand poured into a large vase to signify the merging of two families."

A quirky guestbook

Marga and Bikash's planners sourced wooden leaves for guests to write on. "We love having this on our wall at home with all of the messages from our friends and family."

Just as gorgeous as the rest of the wedding, this looks-almost-too-good-to-eat cake was created by designer Cakey Coo, who took inspiration from the blue floral theme.

No detail was overlooked: to continue the botanical theme, the table numbers were made from mossy foliage, designed to look as though they were growing through the table.

Tables were laid with dip-dyed napkins, sealed with a ceramic floral heart. "We hope our friends and family will treasure them," Marga says.

"Our families wanted a lounge area so there was a quieter spot for those to chat during the dancing," Marga explains. "Knot & Pop created the most sumptuous area, complete with custom-made cushions that now sit pride of place on our sofa at home."

Planner Knot & Pop hand-painted the hundreds of blue flower tiles that formed the cookie table for the wedding guests!

"We had a face painter who worked her magic with floral and botanical inspired designs," Marga says.

Keeping the kids entertained...

"The fun factor was so important to us and it continued into the kids area, where colouring-in tables were set out on a patchwork of rugs and cushions," Marga tells us. Knot & Pop also arranged a flower crown-making class for the children, hosted by Bo Boutique.

…for the whole day

"Each kid was given a goody bag with flower windmill and lots of garden and flower inspired treats inside."

Marryoke worked with the couple to create a fun music video to remember the day by. Marga tells us: "There was edited footage of guests singing one of our favourite songs, Pharell’s Happy!"

Planned to perfection

Marga's top advice is to work with a planner to create your perfect day. "Knot & Pop were indispensable and brought so much creativity and lasting memories to our day," she says. Oh, and one more tip: "Have fun with your playlist! We really enjoyed putting this together to get everyone on their feet."

Photography by Sarah Gawler
