Real Wedding: A Relaxed Celebration in Northumberland with Flawless Floral Arrangements
The couple combined a beautiful collection of colours, ranging from teal to gold, to ensure their wedding day was as special as their relationship.
Katie-Jane wore a lovely Mori Lee wedding dress, while Wesley paid homage to his Texan roots by donning a classic Stetson and cool cowboy boots, creating an amazing fusion of his American background and her love of floristry.

Katie-Jane and Wesley met at a rodeo in Texas in 2008, when Katie-Jane was visiting the state for three months. "We started talking, the next day he took me on a date and the rest, as they say, is history," says Katie-Jane.

"We had talked about getting married, it was part of the package with our long distance relationship," she continues.

"Still, he managed to keep the proposal a big secret. Wesley proposed on Christmas eve in 2014. We were in Texas and some of his family were at our house for an early Christmas dinner."

"Before we ate we all went outside to take family photos and when it was our turn, rather than standing next to me he dropped down on one knee and popped the question with a stunning trio of floating diamonds. I later found out he had searched four states for this particular ring."
The venue and photographer
Wesley and Katie-Jane got married at The Winter Gardens in Hexham, chosen due to the fact it's a blank canvas that the couple could transform it exactly how they wanted to.

"As a florist I work with a lot of wedding venues, so I had a big list of things I didn't want in a venue," Katie-Jane explains.

"The Winter Gardens fitted the bill perfectly. It was completely DIY so I could dress is exactly how I wanted and have a nice relaxed day with the people we love."

The couple chose Kenn Reay Photography, as the photographer had shot Katie-Jane's mum's wedding. "Choosing them was an easy decision and one of the first we made," she explains.

"We also chose to have a videographer because a lot of Wesley's family and some of my grandparents couldn't make it to the wedding, so we wanted to give them the opportunity to watch the big day."

A&G Productions filmed the wedding day.

The wedding dress
Katie-Jane opted to wear an elegant Mori Lee 1901 wedding dress, purchased from YAP Bridal Boutique in Newcastle.

The dress has beautiful venice lace appliqué on the net, as well as striking v-shaped back detailing.
Katie-Jane wore a Sassi Holford Rose Veil, purchased from The Little Pearl Bridal Boutique in Yorkshire.

"I first saw the veil at a wedding fair and it was love at first sight," she says. "It was the only thing in the whole wedding that I absolutely had to have!"

Lisa opted for unusual footwear for her big day, deciding to wear cowboy boots under her dress as a nod to her husband-to-be's heritage.
The groom's outfit
"Wesley was very particular about his look," shares Katie-Jane.

"He chose Ted Baker tweed jackets for him and his best man, which they paired with brown corduroy trousers, pale blue shirts, cream waist coats and teal ties, accessorised with stetsons and cowboy boots."
The floral arrangements
As a florist, there was no doubt that Katie-Jane would create amazing floral arrangements for her big day, crafting stunning displays from David Austen Juliet and Tess roses, pink o'hara, peach avalanche, Suzi Q roses, coral charm peonies, champagne lisianthus, jana spray roses, golden treasure phalaenopsis orchids, freesia, olive, birch and eucalyptus.
Wedding day decorations
Rather than sticking to one or two colours, Katie-Jane and Wesley's big day was an explosion of beautiful shades, including pink, coral, burgundy gold and teal.

The unregimented colour scheme reflected the relaxed and fun wedding day that Wesley and Katie-Jane wanted.

The couple opted to have three long tables and a top table, dressed with teal sequins tables cloths for a little added sparkle.

"The two outside tables were dressed with tall flower arrangements in a very loose style," explains Katie-Jane.

"The table in the centre had matching shorter arrangements, and all three tables had a selection of candles and American cream soda bottles filled with roses. The top table was covered in candles and jars of flowers, with floating foliage suspended from above."
An American / British fusion
Wesley and Katie-Jane were sure to include touches of Texas in their big day, fusing together his Texan background with her floral career to create a day that reflected them both beautifully.

"I made the stationery myself," shares Katie-Jane. "We included a pair of antlers to reflect Wesley's Texan roots and flowers to represent my floral background."
The wedding cake
The three-tier wedding cake was made by Sam at Tally Ho Bakery; each tier had a different flavour, with the couple going for chocolate, carrot and lemon sponge, dressed with buttercream, pretty pink flowers and a gold cake topper.

Other food included a three course meal comprising of goat's cheese tart, confit duck and sticky toffee pudding, and a fish and chip van in the evening.
One of Wesley's best friends, Lindsay, was unable to attend the wedding day, so as a surprise Katie-Jane arranged for her to record a version of Christina Perri's song A Thousand Years that was played at the wedding.

The couple had chosen not to have speeches at their wedding, but it didn't stop the best man David making an impromptu one, that had the whole wedding in tears - of both laughter and emotion.
"My most memorable moments include seeing Wesley's smile as I walked down the aisle, and dancing all night long - the floor was never empty!" reminisces Katie-Jane.

"My advice for follow brides is to have an excel spreadsheet to keep track of your finances and don't forget that it is your wedding day, so do things your way."
