The wedding venue
Sam and Jamie held their wedding at Achnagairn Estate in Inverness, choosing to host their nuptials in the Scottish highlands so their grandparents could attend.

"We'e both been part of events and weddings at nearly every venue in Aberdeenshire and the surrounding areas where we grew up, so we wanted somewhere completely new where we could relax and enjoy our day," explains Sam.

"We loved Achnagairn Estate because it had a country house feel with a modern interior. We booked it without seeing it because we were living in Canada and couldn't get back to view it. We went with the opinion of a friend and reassurance from the venue."

READ MORE: 29 Fabulous Wedding Venues in Scotland
The wedding ceremony decorations
"During the ceremony, flowers were the main decor," says Sam.

"We added tall birch trees along the aisle, as well as candles in the fireplace."

If you love the way Sam and Jamie decorated their ceremony, read our advice on how to make your wedding aisle look pretty to copy their decor.
The reception decor
They went for a similar decor at the reception, adding a tremendous about of flowers to the ballroom, meaning not a lot of other decoration was needed.

The tables were adorned with alternative high and low centrepieces and flickering candles, while festoon lighting hung across space, creating a magical ambience.

READ MORE: The best wedding lighting inspiration on Pinterest
The table names
The tables were all named after Jamie and Sam's favourite restaurants, or restaurants that were part of memorable evenings wth their family and friends.

"Our top table was called The Adelaide after the most awesome little restaurant in St. John’s Newfoundland in Canada, where we lived together," share Sam.

"We also had one named The Cow, after a place in Notting Hill where I was first forced to try oysters. Jamie took ownership of this task so we also ended up with a table called In-n-Out after the American burger chain. I wasn’t allowed any veto on names!"

If you're stuck for a fun way to name your tables, read our guide to unique wedding table name ideas.
The table settings
"Each place setting had a grey napkin with a printed menu placed on top and wrapped it in thin black and white twine with a name tag instead of place card,' says Sam.

"This was one of the only DIY elements of the day, as we wanted a more elegant theme, as opposed to a rustic look," explains Sam.

READ MORE: 32 Unique Name Card Ideas for your Wedding
The wedding cake
Sam and Jamie eschewed tradition and went for a cheese wedding cake instead.

"We left the cake decision until the very last minute and ended up doing a cheese cake made up of a tower of cheese rounds, flowers, foliage and fruit," says Sam.

"We served it during the evening buffet along with Port and crackers and towers of chocolate cake pieces and other sweet treats."

READ MORE: 8 important tips for choosing your wedding cheese cake
The strapless wedding dress
Sam wore a beautiful Essense of Australia wedding dress, purchased from Kudos in Edinburgh.

She accessorised with a veil, a wedding hair accessory courtesy of Jenny Packham and a diamond bracelet given to her by her dad on the wedding morning.
The red wedding shoes
Sam wore a pair of red coloured wedding shoes, by Saint Laurent.

"I figured they wouldn't be seen much under my dress, so I wanted some that I loved and would wear again," she explains.
Navy bridesmaid dresses
Sam's bridesmaids wore navy strapless bridesmaid dresses by Jarlo London to mirror her own dress.

If you love their look, have a look at our edit of the best blue bridesmaid dresses.
The wedding flowers
The wedding flowers were created by Val Morrison from Aberdeenshire.

"We wanted a large amount of white and greenery, interspersed with pinks," explains Sam.

"I showed Val an enormous amount of images and described the feel I wanted and she brought it to life."
The groom's attire
Jamie wore tailor made tartan trousers, as did his brother, while the other groomsmen opted to wear kilts, fitting in perfectly with the highland theme.
"We chose Lukas from Catching The Moments as our photographer," says Sam.

"I'd been a bridesmaid at a wedding he shot and I remembered thinking how great it was that I hardly noticed him there all day."

"We wanted very natural photos and i liked his approach. One piece of advice I would give other brides it to ask your photographer to bring a second shooter, that way nothing is missed if you have a large amount of guests."
Advice for fellow couples
"Prioritise the music at your wedding," advises Sam. "It's what builds atmosphere and relaxes your guests."
