Julia's winter wedding diary - 2 months to go!
  • Julia's winter wedding diary - 2 months to go!

  • This month, Julia is finalising details, including her unusual wedding cake...

I'm writing this on Dan and my four-year-anniversary, probably the last time we'll celebrate it once we're married as one date a year is enough to remember! With two months to go we’ve finally made a long list of things to tick off and I am working on beautifying myself for the big day.

I have spent nearly half my savings on beauty products this month – just joking. But seriously, I’m a sucker for serums, face packs and now I’ve even booked myself in for laser teeth whitening at Kensington Dental Practice.

They have a range of different treatments and even though the lady assured me that it’s new home bleaching treatment is better than anything else they offer, I’m just too lazy to wear a mouth guard at night time for two weeks. Also I can’t imagine the overall look will be of appeal to my husband to be when he looks over in the morning and sees me dribbling!

Instead I am going for an hour and a half painless (I hope) and effective Zoom whitening treatment in a bid to get lovely pearly whites so that I can ooze more confidence on the day. It’s something I’ve been thinking of doing for a while and even though my teeth aren’t all that bad I’ve turned into a perfection freak in a bid for everything to be ‘just so’ on the big day. I’ll let you all know how it goes and may even post some before and after pics!

Aside from that, we’ve had our meeting with the photographer Tom Sullam who totally put me at ease. His tip to me was to basically just forget he’s there and try not to ‘act up’ to the camera. What’s even better is he has a colleague who’s training with him so we’ll get two photographers for the price of one!

The placecards are nearly finished and my mum kindly spent hours neatly handwriting all the names of our guests – of which only one person couldn’t make it to the big day. I also spent an afternoon with my aunt who has been getting knee-deep in glitter, pearls and crystals creating the outside bit to the placecards, which, just to be different, we’re tying on the back of the chairs.

Because the overall theme of our wedding is to do things slightly differently, Dan and I have decided not to have a wedding cake. Instead we are going for a 'cake of cheese', which will be served as our evening buffet. There won't even be a 'cheesy' (sorry couldn't resist) cutting picture as we're not keen on the thought of dozens of people snapping cameras in our faces for a very cliched shot!

Dan's been having lots of fun putting our playlist together in between the band sets. We've got a great band called Funk Factor playing on the night and we've seen them live so know they will be brilliant.

To end on an exciting note, my younger sister who also happens to be one of my bridesmaids gave birth to her second son on 16 Sept, the lovely Louis. I’m so excited about her singing a couple of songs just after the wedding ceremony and even a few weeks after giving birth she’s been rehearsing hard and gave me a sneaky performance the other day… I was blown away; there’ll be a lot of tears on the day!

Next month I’ll let you know how my final dress fitting goes, the cheese tasting and whether I survived the dentist’s chair!

Julia x
