When I check in, I’m amazed at how peaceful the place is – with only 35 suites, it feels very private and you can go for a stroll without seeing anyone else at all. As well as being ideal for relaxing honeymooners, this charming hideaway would be unbelievably perfect for a small, intimate wedding.
After admiring every inch of my chic suite, I step outside to bask in the glorious sunshine. That’s the best thing about the Caribbean climate – you can pretty much guarantee the most gorgeous weather. Even if the heavens do open, it’s nearly always back to blissful clear skies in a matter of minutes.
Luckily, I have enough time before dinner for a quick dip in the warm, sparkling sea. The magic of swimming in clear waters and coming face-to-face with sea turtles is an experience I’ll never forget. My dreamy first day ends with a delicious dinner at Tapestry restaurant, with fish dishes that are deliciously fresh.
After dining on course after course of divine cuisine, the restaurant gets quieter and I just sit listening to the sound of the sea.
It’s impossible not to get swept away with the laid-back vibe while you’re here in Barbados, but try to find the energy to head out and explore. I visited Oistins Fish Fry for fish, beer and copious amounts of rum punch enjoyed with a backdrop of reggae.
There was even a game of road tennis (like outdoor table tennis, but without the table) to enjoy. It’s a popular sport from the 1930s that is still played today – usually barefoot and, you guessed it, in the road. Thank goodness for the easy-going attitude of the local drivers.
I’d also recommend the resort’s complimentary Treasure Art Crawl, to witness local artists creating beautiful pottery or vibrant batik cloth – just leave room in your suitcase for a honeymoon keepsake or two.
After a busy day, we waltz down the sand to the resort’s sister property, The House, for an evening pamper session. Book in for a couple’s massage just before dinner and you’ll be on cloud nine for the rest of the night.
You can also arrange in-room dining for a more private experience. Your butler will serve you, and the hotel’s sommelier will find a wine that works with every dish. You could also select an oceanfront dining option: a five-course menu followed by a fower petal bath, prepared with the resort’s signature essential oils.
