“The most romantic thing about our honeymoon was spending time just the two of us, with no BlackBerry or work,” says Camilla Sacre-Dallerup of Strictly Come Dancing fame, who married Kevin Sacre-Dallerup in an intimate island ceremony on Ibiza in July. “The sandy beaches and clear blue water unique to the Maldives surrounding you at all times was simply amazing,” agrees Kevin. The couple flew out to Four Seasons Kuda Huraa with SriLankan Airlines and, after five days of bliss, travelled on to Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru (http://www.fourseasons.com/maldiveslg/).

Into the blue

Kevin took the chance to sample the Maldives seas in style with an open water PADI diving qualification. “I was lucky enough to dive with 100 manta rays and a whale shark at the same time, which was incredible,” he says. Camilla also took to the water, albeit in a slightly less nerve-racking way. “I decided to just check out the shark from the boat as it was huge, but Kevin informs me it was harmless,” she says. “I went out snorkeling while Kevin was diving one day and saw big Napeoleon wrasse fish and sea turtles. It was mind-blowing and so peaceful to watch.”

Spa-out

“When Kevin was doing his diving course, I enjoyed reading by the pool or in the swings and hammocks hanging from the trees around the island,” says Camilla. “I did a lot of yoga and meditation at the second resort, which was just what I needed after all the stress of organising our wedding – perfect bliss. It was nice just to spend time around the villa or walking along the beautiful beaches.

“We also had some couples’ treatments at the spa, which were outstanding. A really unique thing about the spa at the Landaa Giraavaru is the Ayurvedic treatments they offer. Kevin and I had a treatment together. You meet with a doctor who explains about your body type and personality and then they pick fresh herbs for the treatments from the doctor’s garden to create small hot bundles of oils and herbs. Then two therapists massage you at the same time by moving the bundles around your body. It was out of this world and so amazing to share this experience with Kevin, who was having the treatment right next to me. I now need to find a place to have this treatment in the UK – or need to start growing my own herbs in the back garden!”

Food Glorious Food

“Our favourite restaurants were The Reef Club at Kuda Huraa, where you could dine al fresco beside the ocean, and the stylish Blu at Landaa Giraavaru,” says Camilla. “We had so many beautifully cooked meals there, including lobster, prawns and local snapper. One night at Kuda Huraa we had a delicious meal and great wine out on an ocean sandbank, just me, Kevin and the sound of the sea… magical!”

Suite Success

“At Kuda Huraa we stayed in the very last over-water villa out on the pier, so we felt like we were the only ones holidaying in the middle of the ocean,” says Camilla.

Rising on stilts out of the lagoon, the over-water suites tick honeymooners’ wish lists with huge bathtubs (and beds!) and steps straight into the turquoise water. At Landaa Giraavaru, a beach villa meant ultimate privacy for the celeb couple. “We had the most beautiful villa with access straight down to the private beach and we had our own pool too, which we loved.”

Kevin, Hollyoaks’ Jake Dean, agrees, saying, “The most romantic thing for me was how the villas made you feel. They gave a sense of complete solitude, so you really felt that you were away from the hotel, which is rare.”

Honeymoon Highlights

“The service at Kuda Huraa was second to none and they did so many sweet things for us, such as leaving afternoon snacks and drinks when we went back to the villa after diving,” says Camilla. “When we came back from our special romantic dinner they’d even run a bath for us full of fresh rose petals. It was so lush!”

For Kevin, along with diving, it was the moments of privacy that really stood out. “I loved swimming at night together in our private pool at the beach villa. It was so private – no paps on the Maldives!”
