To the manor…

Stepping inside Wyck Hill House Hotel & Spa for the first time is a bit like being transported to your own mini Downton Abbey. Think ornate, panelled wood entrance hall complete with upstairs-downstairs staff and well-clad guests. Wyck Hill has the hall, plus we’ve already been greeted by at least three friendly members of staff. Needless to say, we’re smitten.

Room for romance…

Stately splendour seems to be the order of the day in our Manor House double. Taking up a full corner of the main house, we immediately pull back original floor-to-ceiling shutters to let in 100-acres of the Wyck Hill estate – just beautiful. There’s a huge flat screen TV along one wall which I ignore in favour of the wildly comfortable antique-framed bed – my other half has already left me for an easy-to-work remote and the Tour de France.

Guests can also chose to bed down in sumptuous style in either the Coach House, Courtyard or Orangery.

A fine feast!

On the Saturday night of our stay, the restaurant was very popular and both the main house dining room and adjacent Victorian-style conservatory saw a content flow of happy diners. Opt for the conservatory, with its romantic views out across the Gloucestershire countryside. We feasted on fresh Carpaccio of local beef, followed by rump of Cotswold lamb with a confit of Provencal vegetables, washed down by a light and tasty pinot noir.

Fall in love with…

The spa. Everything you’d expect from a country hotel spa and more! With products from Espa and a talented therapist to boot, it wasn’t long before we reached the comfort zone.

The bar. Slinky and cool Twenties-style décor – think dark leather bar stools and gold flecked walls – we sipped on pre-dinner Margaritas with the perfect appetite-inducing kick…

We wish we loved…

Having to pack-up and leave. We really were so very comfortable luxuriating in our room, the library and wherever a comfy corner allowed that we wanted to while away the weekend in style just a little longer.
