Middlethorpe Hall in York: honeymoon review

We headed to the glorious city of York for a luxurious break, combining spa treatments, a spot of shopping and a decadent dinner

With such gorgeous weather here at home at the moment, we’re obsessed with the idea of honeymooning in the UK, so hotfooted to Middlethorpe Hotel in York to see what the north of England has to offer when it comes to honeymoons.

You can host weddings at the property too!

The grand property is a 10-minute
drive from the centre of York, and
is ideal for couples who
want to explore the beautiful ancient city by day and retreat to the lap of
luxury come nightfall.

In years gone by, Middlethorpe Hall was actually a nightclub. Thankfully, the thumping beats have been replaced with the gentle crackle of an open fire.

Add to that a small but perfectly formed spa, and you’ve got the most relaxing ambience that you could imagine.

Anyone with furry friends will love it here, too – dogs are welcome to stay in both the Cottage
and Garden Suites.

The perfect bedroom for unwinding in

A lazy morning was spent hopping from the jacuzzi to the sauna, before we strolled about the impressive grounds.

After a day pounding the streets of York and indulging in afternoon tea, we took an hour out to indulge in a Decléor Aromatherapy Warm Stone Massage, £69, in the spa.

It was the ideal massage for dozing off; my mind is always whirring, and this is the first time I’ve ever felt blissed out enough during a treatment to actually fall asleep.

The combination of heavenly scented massage oil, soothing music and my masseuse’s magic hands was enough to send me off into the land of nod.

The heated stones gently ease tension from the body with smooth sweeping movements, and while a massage that teases out knots is great, this soothing treatment is ideal if you want an hour of pure, unadulterated calm. A great way to de-stress in the run-up to the big day.

After my spa treatment, dinner was served in the opulent dining room and the food was out of this world – and the champagne on arrival didn’t hurt either!

B&B prices start from £199 per night, middlethorpe.com
