6 winter skincare tips for a healthy glow

Helen Ambrosen, co-founder and product inventor at Lush, shares her ultimate skincare tips to banish dryness and spots in time for your wedding day.

1. Look beyond your skin

The best thing to do is to look at yourself totally across mind and body, because occasions like this can be very stressful. It’s really good to be aware of how your mind is working because stress shows in your face.

Lots of relaxation, exercise and meditation is important; you really can’t start this regime soon enough. Sleep well, drink plenty of water and maintain a healthy diet. Despite all the beauty products out there, your body responds to how you are mentally, so you need to think about this first.

2. Start prepping at least six months before your wedding

It takes a few months to put in place a really good regime. Go and get a skin consultation – it’s vital that you do this several months before the big day, it will give you time to establish a safe routine to ensure your skin is at its best. The other thing you need to consider is the make-up you are going to wear. You need to make sure this works well with your skin and that you are really happy with the colours.

3. Get rid of spots

If this happens you need to ensure you have a good cleanser. Ultrabland cleanser (£7.25/45g) is so gentle and a great way to give the skin a thorough cleanse. When people have a pimple they tend to use a stronger cleanser, which sometimes makes the problem worse and causes even more spots.

If you do have a spot on the day, the best thing to do is to use a face mask. Lush’s Mask of Magnaminity (£9.75/ 315g) is great for this; don’t put it all over the face, just on the pimple itself. If you don’t have Mask of Magnaminty, use some honey instead, this will very gently dehydrate the spot and soothe it.

 4. Drink a LOT

Lovely moisturised plump skin is what you’re after, the skin will also look soft and hydrated. A lot of this comes through effective cleansing, moisturising and drinking plenty of water. Healthy skin should also have a fairly even skin tone.

5. Don’t skip the cleansing

Cleansing is key, if you cleanse, tone, moisturise and get it right, this will help keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. If you have difficult skin you must not neglect it, if you do, problems will occur. It’s really important to establish a good skin care routine and maintain it.

6. Don’t forget to exfoliate

This is hugely important, but it’s also important not to overdo it. Don’t hate your skin, as sometime this can make things worse as you will use stronger products. It’s better to avoid exfoliating over pimples. Make sure you tend to and look after every area of your face. When cleaning your face everyday, we can sometimes forget certain areas such as under the jaw line, in between your eyebrows and the bridge of your nose.
