Having a few workout DVDs (and VHS tapes for those of you who remember!) under her belt, as well as several intense challenges including Sport Relief, it’s safe to say Davina McCall knows a thing or two about fitness.

The 49-year-old TV presenter is also happily married to her husband Matthew, who she renewed her vows with in a romantic ceremony in Las Vegas in 2015.

So we thought there was no better person to ask for some pre-wedding tips for brides who want to lose weight. Here’s what she had to say.

1. You’ll probably lose weight naturally
“What’s really weird is as I got close to my wedding day, I was so nervous that I just started eating and snacking less, I was running and training too.”

2. Half the battle is the diet
“Everybody asks me about losing weight, and it’s 80-20, and it’s not 80% working out. Working out for me is about fitness inside of me, but for weight loss you just have to portion control and eat the right stuff and we all know how to do it.

3. Sometimes it’s ok to cave and have that chocolate cake
“Sometimes we fall off the wagon horribly. But when you have a wedding, that’s so motivational.”

4. Don’t beat yourself up
“I’m not a personal trainer, I’m not somebody who makes a living out of just working out, I have a job, three kids and I have to squeeze running in free time. It’s hard, but it’s so worth it, that feeling at the end!”

5. Think of something that will motivate you
“For the Sport Relief challenge I did, I took my ring off and gave it to Matthew (her husband) and told him ‘I want you to put this ring back on my finger at the end’.”
