Honeymoon beauty: How to look good at 40,000 feet

“On the wings of love, only the two of us, together flying high...” 80s love ballads aside, here’s how to survive your honeymoon-bound long-haul flight looking, well, plane gorgeous!

Cleanse, tone and … mesmerise: Long-haul flights can really take their toll on a new bride’s beauty. Sitting still for hours on end will slow down circulation plus the arid atmosphere will leave your skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. Cleanse away make-up almost as soon as you’re settled into your seat and keep topping up helpings of thick moisturiser throughout the flight. Research suggests that because your skin is closer to the sun than it’s used to it could be more susceptible to UV damage so choose a cream laced with an SPF. If you’ve got a facial mist, spritz it before your moisturiser to make it more effective.

Resist the salty snacks: the same goes for highly-processed foods, fizzy drinks caffeine and alcohol (although if the stewardesses want you to celebrate with champagne who are we to argue – just swig a bottle of water afterwards.) The last thing you – and your bikini body – wants is to disembark feeling hungry, bloated and tired. Drink plenty of water and pack a few snacks for the journey. You’ll be able to pick up fruit, nuts and seeds or some chopped carrot sticks after you’ve passed through security. And think about opting for a vegan meal onboard which will be loaded with fresh fruit, salads and ratatouille.

Lighten up your make-up: No one will thank you for hogging the loo before landing to ‘put your face on.’ You’re on holiday so just apply the minimum. A layer of CC cream to even out your skintone, a combined lip and cheek tint and a flick of mascara is all you need to arrive fresh faced and ready to relax.
