WHERE: Vital Spa at Macdonald Frimley Hall in Surrey
THE VIBE: An ivy-clad Victorian manor house meets a modern spa and facilities
BEST BRIDE-TO-BE TREATMENT: The Aroma Detox Envelopment, from £66, uses essential oils and mineral-rich marine algae to break down fatty deposits and eliminate excess water retention, promising silky smooth, toned skin for W-day. You can also get all the usual pre-wedding essentials done, such as waxing and mani-pedis, as well as eyelash and eyebrow tints.
HIS ‘N’ HERS TREATMENTS: A range of treatments especially for men include the Ultimate Relaxer Body Massage and Intensive Energising Body Treatment, so your groom can feel pampered too.
BEST AMENITY: The restaurant menu is packed with mouth-watering options, served-up with creative flair. Dining packages are available from £35 per person.
MUST DOS WHILE YOU’RE THERE: Relax at one of the picnic tables on the immaculate lawn facing the hotel’s impressive exterior. Sipping my G&T, I felt like I’d slipped into Brideshead Revisited and the croquet was about to begin. A conscientious bartender kept our drinks topped up and even brought us icy water when the weather got really hot.
WHO GOES: We spotted mother and daughter duos on girly getaways, as well as plenty of loved-up couples milling about in robes and sunbathing on the lawn.
THE BEDROOM: Our room (called Princess Alice, much to my delight), was a spacious 2nd floor Executive Room packed with period details. Bay windows overlooked the grounds and the bed was so comfortable it was a bit of a wrench to abandon it for breakfast. On arrival, a bottle of pink fizz on ice awaited us along with a personal welcome letter. Book a Feature Room if you want wow-factor features like a Victorian fireplace and antique furniture; alternatively a Suite has space for four.
DETAILS: We love ‘The Girlie Getaway’ package, which from £115 per person includes full use of the health and leisure facilities (17m pool, steam room, sauna, gym and relaxation room), three-course dinner in the 2AA Rosette Linden Restaurant, overnight accommodation, full English breakfast and a choice of treatment: half an hour back, neck and shoulder massage or Decléor facial.
WHAT’S INCLUDED: Room and use of the health facilities are included in regular bookings. Spa treatments, food and drinks are extra but several packages are available.
LOCATION: Lime Avenue off Portsmouth Road, Camberley, Surrey, GU15 2BG. About one-and-a-half miles from Camberley train station, it’s easily walkable but there’s also a taxi rank outside the station. From London, take a South West train – their Summer Fever offer is £15 for adults (£7.50 for children) for same-day return to anywhere on South West Trains network (some exclusions apply), for any weekend in August. Visit southwesttrains.co.uk/fever or call 0845 6000 650 for more details.
