For vegans, gluten-intolerant brides or even for those on a diet, finding a healthy wedding cake that still tastes nice can be hard. So we asked baker Lily Vanilli for her top tips, and we think you will like them.
Tips to make your cake healthy:
Try flavours which incorporate veg into the recipe – such as carrot & courgette which is lovely and moist. Or try going for a ‘root cake’ – which is like carrot cake but with beetroot and parsnip too
2. Fresh fruit
There are lots of fresh fruit options both inside and out – decorate the cake with fresh berries rather than sugar work and chocolate for delicious flavours, vitamins and antioxidants.

You can go gluten free without introducing any substitutes – just ask for a cake which calls for ground nuts rather than flour – this is traditional in many countries, stays moist for longer, adds a lovely depth of flavour and is really good for you.
4. Vegan cake
You can sub out eggs and replace with banana if you are keen to go vegan.
You can also sub out refined sugar for honey or coconut blossom sugar for a healthier alternative.

6. Different kinds of flour
There are plenty of more wholesome grains you can use in your cake such as rye, buckwheat or spelt, which are a bit healthier.
7. Naked cake
Going for a naked cake reduces the amount of buttercream or fondant substantially & with it the amount of fat and sugar – it also looks really modern & fresh!
