To celebrate the Chelsea Flower Show in May, award-winning cake designer Peggy Porchen is sharing her sweet secrets in a one-off baking master class.
Enjoy a week’s curriculum dedicated to specialist sugar floristry techniques at Peggy’s new cake academy, which is nestled opposite her parlour on London’s Elizabeth Street.
Whether you’re looking to kick-start your career in cake baking, or simply fancy a fun day out, the classes range from beginner to expert and so there is something for every skill set.
Floral week courses include a ‘Rosebud and Petal’ workshop for crafty beginners, where you’ll learn to mould flowers by hand using scrumptious marzipan and sugar paste.
Then there’s a ‘Vintage Bloom’ master class for those who want to learn how to steam petals, creating that breathtaking real-life look.
Peggy will also be offering a ‘Bridal Bouquet’ workshop, inspired by some of her most popular floral wedding cake designs; think Avalanche Roses and Lily of the Valley. Working with cake tiers, you’ll learn how to position, tape and wire flowers for a flawless finish.
The likes of Elton John, Stella McCartney, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow have all indulged in Peggy’s sugary sensations. Aside from her A-list baking credentials, Peggy and her team of experts also hold classes throughout the year, with the occasional guest chef making an appearance. We’re convinced you’ll love learning how to make your own wedding cakes, posy-perfect!
