ceramic heart from CAA
The best wedding gifts are ones that remind you both of the person who gave it to you, and of your wedding day.
Household goods are useful if you’re setting up home together, but for many newlyweds, you really CAN have too many sets of cutlery, dinner plates and toasters.
Some couples ask for vouchers or donations towards a honeymoon. But if this still feels a little too mercenary for your tastes, why not put works of art on your wedding list?
Too personal, you may think. And heaven forbid you should have to hang one of Aunty Kat’s home-painted efforts above your mantelpiece,.. But register your wedding list with a gallery, and you could find yourself the proud owner of a unique piece of art that you will treasure forever – and that could even become a family heirloom.
London’s CAA (Contemporary Applied Arts) gallery in Percy Street, just off Tottenham Court Road, offers a wedding gift list service, whereby you can make a selection of work from items on show, which are all for sale.
Alternatively, request that your gifts come in the form of CAA Gift Vouchers that you can then combine to buy a larger piece of work; or even commission a craftsman to make you a one-off piece.
On display are exquisite pieces made from materials including wood, ceramics and metal, which vary in size from a small spoon to a chest of drawers. A vase, jug or wall hanging would all make a fantastic wedding present. Every one is handmade so no two are identical, and while some serve a useful purpose, others are also simply beautiful mementoes that will transport you back to the happiest day of your life every time you look at them.
