Disney Princesses are Always Wearing Blue, and we Know Why

Belle, Jasmine and Cinderella all have blue as their signature colour, but we only just realised why

We don’t know about you, but we love the colour blue; blue wedding themes, blue bridesmaids’ dresses, blue wedding shoes… we could go on, and it seems like we’re not the only ones.

Have you ever noticed that Disney Princesses are always wearing blue? Jasmine’s sassy crop top and trouser combo is a lovely shade of Tiffany blue, Elsa’s chilly looking ice dress is a striking cool blue hue, and Cinderella’s stunning Fairygodmother designed gown is the most beautiful pale blue colour.

Sleeping Beauty rocked a blue gown as she danced with Prince Phillip

So we started wondering, why are they all in blue?

Beatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute says that female empowerment is the reason behind all of our heroines being dressed in blue.

“You’re adding a bit of power to the character by giving her the blue. It’s a very subtle way of saying, ‘Yeah, but young women, young girls, can be empowered, too.'”

There’s no denying that the princesses are all empowered; Ariel runs (swims?!) away from the sea king to follow her heart, Jasmine refuses to marry the men her father has lined up for her, and Elsa… well we all know what a great feminist icon she is.

So there you have it, another reason to pick blue as your wedding colour – it’s empowering!
