Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah resort
Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in the Sultanate’s exotic capital Muscat, is made up of three distinctive hotels: Al Waha, the ‘Oasis’ hotel is an ideal family getaway, featuring an enormous oasis-style pool; Al Bandar is at the centre of the resort and features its very own Souk and ballroom; and Al Husn is the most exclusive – guests can enjoy a private beach and infinity pool alongside a higher level of services and amenities. So whatever your needs, there’s something to suit everyone.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – what to do
There’s plenty of entertainment on offer within the resort: take a tour down the ‘Lazy River,’ a man-made circuit you can float along, go to the beach to soak up the sun, or relax in the majestic lobby or courtyard pavilions. There are plenty of ways to keep your cool in the fierce midday sun, and a Cosmo in the shade is a particularly good idea in our opinion.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – the souk
You can keep your honeymoon packing to a minimum, as the resort contains its own Souk where you can buy anything from traditional Omani dress, to ornaments, to flip-flops – brilliant for a spot of afternoon retail therapy.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – the spa
Make sure you find time to visit CHI The Spa for a soothing treatment from the huge menu. Its name, CHI, says it all, and for couples suffering from P.W.O.E (post wedding over-excitement) it promises to be a perfect wind-down.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – foodie treats
There are a whole variety of options when it comes to meal times, but the fashion team can say with confidence that the buffet at Al Tanoor was seriously good. We thought all-you-can-eat lobster was a brilliant pick-me-up after a busy day of shooting and the wine list was pretty spectacular too.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – fine dining
For a truly decadent and romantic evening, wine and dine at Shahrazad Moroccan Restaurant at Al Husn Hotel. We thought all food should be served in darling little Tandoor pots from now on because it makes everything taste so good. Even though we had bikinis to negotiate, no one could resist another portion of Baklava.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – the bedrooms
There are few better things in life than a really comfortable bed, and our rooms in Al Bandar Hotel did not disappoint. They were so nice, in fact, that we felt we had to take some seriously early nights to properly enjoy them. With a balcony overlooking the sea, a well-stocked mini-bar, complimentary fruit and deliciously plump dates, we saw no reason to leave.
Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah – the vibe
The resort is overflowing with luxury and comfort and is the perfect honeymoon destination for those who desire exotic, heady romance. Think Arabian Nights meets sophisticated cool – a perfect getaway for those after something a little bit special.
