Private yacht, luxe villa or five-star resort - where will Kate and Wills spend their trip of a lifetime? Travel editor Amanda Statham speculates...

An African affair

Romantic Prince William (finally!) popped the question to Kate at Kenya’s beautiful Lewa Safari Camp: bush-homes.co.ke

He revealed he was carrying the rock (his mother’s engagement ring) ‘around in his rucksack for weeks’ and the moment ‘just felt right’. We’re not surprised, the family-run reserve is simply stunning, with 45,000 acres of wildlife-filled bush land and a backdrop of the snow-capped Mount Kenya.

The honeymoon

The royal lovebirds may take their inspiration from princes and princesses past and present and opt for a yacht. In the ‘50s Princess Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco set sail for a honeymoon cruise around the Mediterranean on board the Deo Juvante II (the groom’s wedding gift to the bride, natch). While Charles and Diana spent part of their three month ‘moon sunning themselves on the deck of The Royal Yacht Britannia, which they boarded at the Rock of Gibraltar then cruised around Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily, the Greek islands and Egypt. If Kate and Wills want to set sail too, they should take a look at moorings.co.uk, an exclusive yacht charter company with boats in 26 locations. We can just picture them sipping cocktails as they drift around the South Pacific…sigh.

Favourite Destinations

The globetrotting couple have been papped in the past chilling out at some honeymoon-esque destinations while dating, which gives an indication to the type of holidays they like. Our favourite WillKat location is desroches-island.com, in the stunning Indian Ocean archipelagos of the Seychelles, a dreamy private island ringed by white sand. If they loved this, they’ll drop their crown jewels at the sight of the Seychelles’ super luxe eco resort north-island.com, an A-list favourite thanks to its complete privacy.

Roughing it

The couple have also enjoyed time on Rodrigues, a little-known island close to Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. Previously they ‘roughed it’ in a $25 night B&B; this time they could upgrade to the three-star cottonbayhotel.biz, overlooking a stretch of perfect white sand.

Alternative choices

They might not be known for their partying (unlike Prince Harry) but Kate and Wills recently enjoyed a villa holiday on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, including chartering a yacht for the day with friends. Think of Ibiza accommodation as cramped apartments in Playa Den Bossa? Wrong. Take a look at ibizahotels.com
, packed with whitewashed pads with infinity pools, bedrooms with a four-poster and Jacuzzi and a chef on call; perfect for a honeymoon, royal or otherwise.
