Spring/summer fashion shows are often awash with gorgeous, bridal-friendly dresses and this year’s London Fashion Week was no different. John Rocha (pictured) played with texture in his romantic collection, with hand-crocheted designs, summer tweeds, soft lace and netted skirts, while Jasper Conran embraced sheer layering, elegant shift dresses and super-short minis. Ashley Isham wowed the audience with show-stopping gowns adorned with feathers, sequins, plastic panels, gold chains and smatterings of appliqué blooms that snaked the contours of the body. And let’s not forget the Erdem show, which was a romantic breath of spring air, beginning with a slew of gorgeous white lace and chiffon dresses, while Amanda Wakeley’s silky, snow-white slips were toughened up with metallic half-moon necklaces and chunky cuffs.
The LWDs weren’t just confined to the catwalks. Off the walkway, Monsoon showed off their new Love range for next spring – beautiful floaty, ethical cotton dresses with button and shell embellishments; perfect for the destination bride – while Felicity Brown, my dream designer of the moment, had a stunning selection of full-bodied, pleated dye-dipped dresses.
