With a worldwide audience of over two billion tuning in to see them tie the knot on 29 April last year, who can blame the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for opting for a low-key celebration for their first wedding anniversary?
A spokesman for St James’ Palace confirmed the royal couple have chosen to spend the weekend privately but they have a busy week of public engagements planned in the run up to the paper anniversary on Sunday.
On Wednesday William and Kate will attend the UK premiere of African Cats in aid of animal welfare charity Tusk Trust, which the Duke is patron of. Africa holds special memories for the pair as William proposed to Kate while on safari in Kenya. The busy husband and wife team will also be attending two other charity events in London this week.
