Many thought Keira Knightley would don an Atonement-esque sweeping vintage gown and marry her musical fiance in front of rows upon rows of their celebrity friends.

But Keira, or should we say, Mrs Righton, stayed true to her own laidback casual vibe and did pretty much the opposite.

In the town of Mazan, just miles from her French home in Marseilles, Keira and James rocked up to the tiny town hall together in a Renault Clio and said ‘I do’ in front of less than 15 of their closest friends and family members.

Shrugging off the celebrity penchant for over-the-top dresses, Keira wore a blush ballet-style short strapless frock teamed with matching flat pumps and a delicate floral headband in her hair.

After a short service in the town hall, the new Mr and Mrs Righton jumped back into their Clio to no doubt toast the marriage with a glass of bubbles, or perhaps cider is more fitting?, nearby.

Reports swirled that Karl Lagerfeld was to have a hand in designing a dress for Keira in the lead-up to her wedding, so we’re guessing she’ll pull on said creation ready for another 40 or so guests to join the two at Keira’s house for a marquee celebration later in the weekend.

We just know brides all over the world will love Keira’s low-key big day and no doubt use it as inspiration for years to come.
