Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell
It was a case of “love, love me do!” this weekend when Sir Paul McCartney and long-term partner Nancy Shevell tied-the-knot in an intimate ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall on Sunday.
The pair wed in front of just 30 close family and friends with Sir Paul’s daughter Beatrice – from his second marriage to Heather Mills – acting as bridesmaid. A crowd of well-wishers gathered outside the register office to offer their support for the thrice wed former Beatle. Besides past band mate Ringo Starr, Paul’s children from his first marriage to Linda – renowned photographer Mary, fashion designer Stella and son James – also attended the ceremony. Paul and Linda married at the same venue back in March 1969.
Daughter Stella McCartney was responsible for creating Nancy’s timeless Thirties-inspired wedding dress. Cut just above the knee and with vintage-style buttons down the bodice, the ivory-toned dress suited the 51 year old’s slim silhouette perfectly, paired with a simple fabric flower motif worn in the bride’s hair. She also carried a simple bouquet of pink-toned roses – mature brides take note. The groom wore a matching pink rose button hole as well as acting as Nancy’s ‘something blue’ by donning a tailored navy suit and pale blue tie.
As the new twosome left the £1,540 ceremony, family and friends threw rose petals, while well wishers cheered. Afterwards, back at the St. John’s Wood luxury home the couple share, a lavish reception party got underway with a marquee erected on the drive of the three-storey townhouse. Budget brides take note (sort of), despite rumours that Sir Paul had spent thousands of pounds on hundreds of bottles of Cristal and Laurent Perrier champagne – coming in at about £180 a bottle – reports showed that the venue had in fact been stocked with fizz-newcomer Dumangin Grande Reserve – costing just £26.50 a bottle. It seems even the A+-list knows how to save a buck or two.
Guests feasted on a vegetarian banquet-style menu while the tuneful groom reportedly serenaded his new wife with a previously unreleased song. Eveyone… “She loves Me Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!”
