Venue review: Luton Hoo, Bedfordshire

Everyone feels like they’ve been whisked away to another world on their wedding day, but what about surrounding yourself by over 1000 acres of countryside? Well, Luton Hoo could be the venue for you…

The backstory

Ravishing, romantic and quintessentially English (with an unexpected hint of Russia) Luton Hoo certainly doesn’t disappoint in the glamour stakes.

If an interesting history is a crucial factor in your venue choice, you’ll be pleased to hear that Luton Hoo has seen both triumphs and tragedies under its Grade-I listed roof. Having fallen into disrepair in the late 20th century, the venue was bought in 1999 when just two employees remained and fully restored it to the glory of its heyday.

Those millions have been put to good use: expect double-height mirrored doors, opulent jewel-toned furnishings and open fires in the many reception spaces.

You’ll be in good company at the Mansion House, too, with Prince Philip and the Queen having celebrated their early wedding anniversaries within its three-story walls.

Plan your day

Hold your ceremony in the converted Orthodox Russian Chapel for a real sense of grandeur – the iconic domed ceiling will definitely add the wow factor. Descend the swirling marble staircase and greet your guests at the bottom to seal the deal.

Come evening time, Luton Hoo has a dazzling selection of glamorous rooms to choose from; it’s perfect for parties of all sizes. Expect first-class service and a beautifully presented banquet.

Added extras

If you’re keen for a few pre-wedding treatments, or maybe just want to relax with your bridesmaids in the run up to the big day, Luton Hoo’s spa makes a fabulous escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Boasting views across the hotel’s impressive estate, we could very easily while away the hours browsing the Sunday supplements on their poolside loungers!

In a nutshell

What sets Luton Hoo head and shoulders above the rest in the five-star bracket is their shining service. Forget attentive: the staff have put the wheels in motion before you’ve even thought about what it is you need. Vintage London taxis transport guests between the main mansion and the outhouses; the perfect finishing touch for this thoroughly British venue.

The verdict

With its shameless opulence and first-rate service, Luton Hoo most definitely has the Y&YW deal of approval. Time to pack your bags and pay them a visit – we promise you won’t regret it.
