The inspiration – You’ll not find a more creative author than the master of imagination himself, Roald Dahl, which makes his books the perfect starting point for creating a wow-factor big day theme. And that’s exactly what the team behind this sweet style did: “The theme of this shoot is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Willy Wonka,” says Creative Director Amy. “It’s a slightly more unusual wedding theme but that is also exactly the point. I used this theme to bring in up and coming trends, such as the donut cake and to also highlight amazing fashion brand House of Ollichon. I want to inspire brides to be brave, to embrace who they are and leave all their guests remembering their wedding for a long time because it had such unique elements.”
The inspiration – “My main inspiration for this shoot was to show couples you can pull inspiration from even the most unlikely of places. If your favourite book or film isn’t a typical wedding theme or even a romantic story you can still bring aspects into your wedding day,” says Amy. ” I think it’s important for your day to reflect you and your partner no matter how unusual it may initially seem.”
The colour palette – The sweetie theme was perfectly captured in a combination of bright blue, pink and yellowy gold. “We chose a few key colours as a subtle representation of Willy Wonka’s world and sweets,” says Amy. “It’s key to stick to 2-4 colours with a theme like this so you don’t overpower the room.”
The venue – The newly-converted Grade II-listed Pumping House in Nottinghamshire was the perfect backdrop to this theme with it’s blank canvas industrial reception space. “This theme works best in an old building to represent the Willy Wonka’s factory. This will give your guests the feeling of arriving at the chocolate factory in the way Charlie does. If you want a more subtle approach then any venue with a pared back space inside can take on this theme.”
The flowers – “As sweets were the main focus of our styling, the flowers were kept minimal with only small touches on the tables and a small arrangement on the top table,” says Amy.

How to create the look on a budget – The sweets in this shoot don’t just look visually stunning, but they’re a tasty that for guests and are very budget-friendly. “The chocolate and sweet elements of this theme are so cheap that you can recreate the look exactly,” says Amy. “Details like the glasses dipped in hundreds and thousands are very cheap to do. This theme is an easy one to replicate as the majority of the suppliers used are very reasonably priced.”
