Prince William and Kate Middleton
Lovingly wrapped in each other’s embrace, the beaming faces of Prince William and Kate Middleton shine out from their official engagement pictures this week.
The couple posed for celebrated photographer Mario Testino – he’s also responsible for some of the most iconic images of Princess Diana – at St James’s Palace recently after their engagement was announced last month.
Going against the grain of Royal formality, William and Kate’s casual pose is all part of a growing trend in engagement pictures amongst the newly tied. What was once an American phenomenon seems to have spread this side of the pond, with couples up and down the land sending official snaps of themselves to friends and family as soon as the news is out. “It’s the perfect time to work with the photographer of your choice, so you’ll know him on the big day and it would be a great gift for each other,” commented You & Your Wedding fashion director, Peta Hunt.
In Prince William and Kate’s case, there’s also a formal picture taken in the Council Chamber of St James’s Palace – perhaps demonstrating their adherence to form as well as to their honest affection for each other, as seen in the casual photograph. That aside, like most newly engaged couples keen to show a united front; we’re pretty sure we know which one they’d prefer to send out to friends and family.
