Royal Wedding Performers Announced

Performers at the royal wedding

We were expecting a fanfare at Westminster Abbey on 29 April, and St James’s Palace has just announced that’s what we’ll get – literally – with The Fanfare Team for the Central Band of the Royal Airforce performing for Prince William, Kate Middleton and the entire globe (no pressure, then) alongside The State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry. And in case some of the 2000 guests are tempted to mime the hymns (as if!), The Choir of Westminster Abbey and The Chapel Royal Choir (look out for the boy choristers wearing state uniforms that date back to the 17th century) will help put some oomph into the congregation.

The London Chamber Orchestra will also be on hand to perform a mix of traditional works and specially-commissioned musical pieces, but there’s no news yet on the hymns themselves, although the Palace has confirmed they will be ‘well-known’. We’d put money on a rousing rendition of I Vow To Thee My Country, as sung at Charles and Diana’s wedding in 1981. And despite rumours and counter-rumours about James Blunt playing the organ and everyone from JLS to Tom Jones offering their services on the big day, there’s no sign yet of any celebrity involvement…
