Andy and I had a big holiday planned in November of 2013 with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend. It was three weeks in Florida, and as we had been saving for a while, it was set to be a holiday of a lifetime. We’d already been together for four-and-a-half years, so I was secretly hoping for a holiday proposal.
During the last week of the holiday, we planned a trip to Discovery Cove where we had booked a swimming with dolphins experience. The morning we arrived at the park, Andy’s little surprises began… He told me he had booked a Cabana for all of us (a shady private area with chaise lounges and other luxurious touches), saying he must have just forgotten to tell me.
We did our dolphin swim in the pool that our Cabana overlooked – an amazing experience. At the end of the swim our instructor said that unfortunately the photo they took of us posing with the dolphin hadn’t come out properly and asked if they could take another so, of course, we agreed. Once the picture had been taken the instructor suggested that as we were the last ones in the pool in our group, we could practice a new trick with the dolphin if we liked. I adore dolphins so jumped at the chance, and off the lady went with the dolphin so it could bring me it’s ‘favourite toy’.
When the dolphin came back through the water, it was holding a buoy in his mouth with something written on it. As it got closer, I realised it said ‘Emma, will you marry me?’. I couldn’t believe it! I later found out that my family had known for months, so they weren’t surprised at all and stood around the dolphin lagoon taking pictures of us as it happened.
When we got back to our Cabana, there were a dozen red roses in a beautiful vase and a treasure box filled with sand and flowers with the ring box in the middle. It was such a romantic thing for him to do, and we’ve now set the date for 2 May 2015 – my mum’s birthday.
