Lawrence and I had been together just over five years when I was due to go on my bi-annual trip to my home country of Australia. A week before I was due to fly, Lawrence surprised me by asking whether I’d like to take a weekend away to Wales so that we could spent some time together before our three weeks apart.

Without giving it a lot of thought, I said yes, but it wasn’t until we were in the car on Friday evening and driving out of London that I had time to consider what fun lay ahead for our weekend away.

On Saturday morning we woke up in our cute B&B in Snowdonia and Lawrence had planned a surprise drive. As we pulled into the carpark of Portmerion, Lawrence explained that the village had been created by an architect who was seduced by Italian design. As we walked around the stunning town centre, it was easy to spot the Italian influences surrounding us. With my Welsh-Italian heritage, this was a perfect setting for very thoughtful romance.

After walking through the town, we continued out along the coastline, and stopped on a gorgeous rock looking out over the sea. Lawrence got down on one knee and opened a box to reveal a stunning sapphire and cluster diamond engagement ring, and in floods of tears I said yes!

That evening we drank champagne and dined at the town’s restaurant, only to be surprised by a Guy Fawkes fireworks display! It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
