Amy & Alex: In the beginning – Alex and Amy first met at a music festival in Spain, but it wasn’t until a year later when they bumped into each other in a pub that they finally hit things off. After two and a half happy years together, Alex popped the question on a romantic break in the New Forest. “We went to the beach – it rained. We went for a picnic the next day – it rained. The weather got the better of him and he finally proposed in bed on the Monday morning over a cup of tea!” says Amy. Photography: Polly Alexandre
Amy & Alex: Outside thinking – The couple chose their sophisticated West End venue, Century Club, Soho, for its fabulous roof terrace and intimate, individual feel. “As we were getting married in summer we wanted our guests to have the opportunity to enjoy some of the great British weather – if it happened to fall on our wedding day,” says Amy. “And the terrace has a roll on/roll off roof so if it did rain, we could still use the space.”
Amy & Alex: Easy being green – A fresh colour palette of greens and whites suited the stylish space, with fish bowls filled with hydrangeas, guilder rose, berries and seed heads by Jane Packer topping the tables.
Amy & Alex: She’s fresh – To continue the fresh feel of the day, Amy chose an irregular dome bouquet of guelder rose and hydrangea. “I wanted it to look simple and contemporary,” says Amy.
Amy & Alex: Put it in neutral – Chic and modern were the key words for Amy and Alex, who decided against a specific theme and instead looked to create a relaxed atmosphere for their guests. Their friend Libby Young designed the sleek, stylish stationery, including the graphic table plan displayed in an oversized black frame.
Amy & Alex: So chic – Amy chose a lace Lusan Mandongus dress from Teokath in Wimbledon. “Unlike other dresses I’d tried, I felt like me when I tried it on.”
Amy & Alex: Head over heels – “My shoes were very un-glamorous. In fact they weren’t shoes at all!” says Amy. “They were a pair of flip-flops from ASOS that cost £12. Alex and I are the same height and I didn’t want to be taller than him – I wanted to look into his eyes, so I chose something that would just protect the soles of my feet.”
Amy & Alex: Follow suit – Alex wore a chic single-breasted tailor-made navy suit from Suit Supply, which complemented the modern feel of the day.
Amy & Alex: Maid to measure – The beautiful tailor-made bridesmaid dress by Caroline at Caroline Couture completed Amy and Alex’s chic W-day theme.
Amy & Alex: Flower tower – To reach greater heights with their wedding cake, the couple used a base of two dummy tiers – disguised with white fondant icing and finished with ribbon. On top sat three layers of decadent flavours of orange buttercream; lemon sponge drizzled with lemon buttercream; and carrot cake with vanilla buttercream, made by The Abigail Bloom Cake Company.
Amy & Alex: Bags of fun – “We didn’t give our guests favours, and we didn’t want them to go hungry either,” explains Amy. So, after the wedding ceremony the couple asked their ushers to hand out pink and white striped paper bags, which contained Folkington’s fruit juice, a Doves Farm organic flapjack, a pink and white stripey straw, and a thank-you note.
Amy & Alex: Party starters – A three-piece jazz band delivered the cool factor during the cocktail reception and wedding breakfast, before a group of DJ friends took to the stage in the evening to get the party started. Photography: Polly Alexandre
