The Couple

Daniel Kelley, who’s in the Armed Forces, proposed to civil servant Rebecca Hocking in Murano, Venice. “We’d been together ten months but we’d already discussed marriage – I didn’t expect it in Venice though!” says Rebecca.

The couple married at Pendennis Castle on 14 June 2008. “My dad’s family are local and when my gran passed away recently we knew we wanted to get married in Cornwall,” says Rebecca. “We married in the Keep – as soon as we visited Pendennis I knew it was The One.”

The Ceremony

At the ceremony, the Keep was filled with hundreds of candles and the aisles lined with old gunpowder barrels. Fishbowls filled with floating cream rose heads and church candles sat on top of the barrels. “It looked really magical,” says Rebecca.

“My favourite moment was seeing Dan with tears in his eyes at the end of the aisle – he’d only just come back from Iraq so it was an incredible feeling.”

The Dress

Rebecca’s strapless ivory lace dress by Pronovias had a sweetheart neckline and scalloped train. “I tucked a 1920s handkerchief, given to me by my grandma, down the front of the dress for my something old!” says Rebecca.

She also wore a simple necklace from the same jewellery shop where they bought the engagement and wedding rings.

“My new husband wore his Army Number Ones, and he looked fantastic,” says Rebecca. “He blew everyone away!” The reception was held in the Royal Artillery Barracks in the castle grounds as another nod to the military.

The Food

“The buffet meal by About Taste was perfect,” says Rebecca. The reception tables were decorated with more fishbowl centrepieces with cream roses, pebbles and a pillar candle.

“They were simple, classic, and allowed all the guests to talk freely across the tables,” says Rebecca. Her bouquet by George Mackay was also of cream roses, in a classic style with hosta leaf backing. “It was just what I wanted,” says Rebecca.

“Charlotte from About Taste also made our wedding cake and cupcakes,” says Rebecca. “They were beautifully matched to my bouquet and decorated with tiny cream sugar roses.”
