Twist of fete

Flashes of vibrant colour and quirky details were a modern take on country-cool for Jo and Jezz

Jo and Jezz: In the beginning

On the edge of a cliff in Dartmouth, Devon, Jo was taking in the sea view when Jezz got down on one knee in a puddle. “I couldn’t believe it,” says Jo. “We both cried, laughed a lot and then got a free cup of tea from the lovely man in a nearby tearoom!”

Jo and Jezz: Village-fête vibe

Little did they know that this tea-party feel was to find its way into their big-day – in strawberry-dotted napkins, vintage cups and saucers, colourful flowers, balloons, lollipops and a laidback celebration. “We wanted everyone to feel relaxed and have fun,” says Jo.

Jo and Jezz: Going to the chapel

From the minute they arrived at St. Mary’s church in Stansted, Jo and Jezz’s guests knew a lot of thought had gone into the day: a mini enamel bath at the entrance was bursting with Cath Kidston tissues labeled ‘for your tears of joy!’

Jo and Jezz: Beautiful beads

Jo wore a delicate, tiered Claire Pettibone dress with capped sleeves, from Blackburn Bridal Couture. Seamstress Jan sewed beads from Jo’s mum’s wedding dress into the train to personalize it. “I loved it,” says Jo. “It was my something old.”

Jo accessorised with a silk flower in her hair while her maids wore different jewel-coloured dresses.

Jo and Jezz: Looking good

Jezz looked dapper in a slim-fit, grey Hugo Boss suit with a striped tie and a Thomas Pink blue pocket handkerchief. His bright buttonhole, made-up of a hot-pink rose and cool-blue cornflower, matched Jo’s bouquet which also contained scented sweetpeas.

Jo and Jezz: Pretty petals

After the ceremony, guests were greeted by the colourful sight of gingham confetti cones filled with cream rose petals, pegged along a length of rustic twine.

Jo and Jezz: Barn dance

The wedding party then took a short walk along a pretty country path to The Court Lodge. The majestic barn was decked out in bunting and tall balloons while the tables were decorated with cream jugs of pink and purple blooms.

Jo and Jezz: Fun and games

In the gardens of the barn, guests had fun with giant Jenga and horse-shaped space-hoppers. Florists, Floral Explosion, also filled jam jars with a colouful pop of flowers to continue Jo and Jezz’s theme outside.

Jo and Jezz: Sweet treats

Retro swirly lollipops tied with hand-made labels helped guests find their seats for the wedding breakfast.

Jo and Jezz: Top that

The Marks and Spencer wedding cake was decorated with mini-bunting and topped with a super-cute knitted peas-in-a-pod bride and groom!

Jo and Jezz: Happy feet

After dancing the night away to music from The Superlatives, guests’ party-sore feet were treated to comfy flip-flops courtesy of the newlyweds.
