Nicola and Johnathan’s intimate South African day

Nicola Dias and Johnathan Foster tied the knot at the 12 Apostles Hotel, Camps Bay, South Africa

Nicola and Jon – Why South Africa

Why South Africa?

“Both Jon and I have family connections with Africa, and settled on South Africa in the end due to ease of communications, time difference, culture and weather,” says Nicola. “The Twelve Apostles Hotel was recommended by Yvonne of Holidaysplease and we both liked the look and location of the hotel, even though we had never been there.”

Nicola and Jon – The Ceremony

What was the ceremony like?

“Intimate, meaningful and tailor-made to our requirements. Wedding ceremonies in South Africa are very flexible, and although it wasn’t a religious ceremony we were able to have a blessing given by Jon’s dad, which is something that wouldn’t have been possible in the UK.”

Nicola and Jon – The Reception

What was the reception like?

“We were able to choose the time of the wedding and reception to suit both old and young family members.  It was very relaxed and informal and after the reception some of our guests decided to go for a swim whilst my new husband and I relaxed in a hammock!  The heat of the day meant everyone got into the spirit of South African life.”

Nicola and Jon – Ease of Arrangements

Was it easy to arrange?

“It was very easy to arrange as the wedding was booked through Holidaysplease along with the rest of our travel arrangements and honeymoon. We went for 3 nights safari to a private game lodge and then over to Mauritius. As the hotel had an in-house wedding co-ordinator, all of the extra arrangements with the service providers (minister, florist, hair and make up, sound system provider etc) were undertaken by email and the first time we met the co-ordinator in person was the day of the wedding itself! But the wedding went exactly as planned thanks to the professional manner in which it was organised.”

Nicola and Jon – Tips

Any tips?

“Organising a wedding abroad can be stressful as a lot of it is out of your control, but that can also be a blessing.  Put your trust in the professionals and the experience of organising the wedding can be as positive as the wedding day itself.”
