Travel lovers Kathryn and Daryl got engaged in the Philippines, and knew that they wanted their wedding to take place somewhere equally special, but with friends and family dotted around the world, planning a wedding with all of their loved ones present seemed a very tricky task.
With this in mind, the couple made the decision to elope to Banff, Canada.
“We decided to focus on the marriage, not the big celebration and do it our way,” says Kathryn. “Both families understood and supported our decision so we do feel very lucky!”
After deciding on their destination, Kathryn and Daryl wasted no time.
“We managed to plan the entire wedding within a couple of weeks, making sure we had our visas, marriage license, transport, accommodation and full wedding attire all ready for our big day,” says Daryl.
Finding a commissioner to lead the ceremony was a task that fell to Daryl.
“He tirelessly searched the internet for commissioners in the Banff area who were not only available at such short notice but also physically able to climb to the spot where we wanted to get married,” explains Kathryn.
“Our photographers Terry Photo Co. recommended some great commissioners they’d worked with before. We ended up finding someone who was also a big adventure seeker and really helped make our day feel special.”
Despite it being just the two of them, they chose to wear full wedding finery.
“We wanted the day to feel special and to dress up and celebrate the commitment we were making, we feel lucky to have found each other as it really isn’t a given thing,” says Kathryn. “It made the whole day feel magical and added to the special moment.”
“We have booked a family gathering to celebrate the day back in the UK,” Kathryn explains.
“We’ll be bringing together both sides of the family, grandparents included. My grandparents are very important to me and they wouldn’t have been able to attend the wedding abroad even if we had invited them. This way our families can celebrate our day all at once and together so we don’t feel like we’ve missed out on anything.”
“We couldn’t have hoped for better weather on our wedding day,” says Daryl.”We spoke our vows looking over one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, surrounded by the incredible mountains of the Canadian Rockies.”
