Organise your wedding in Italy
What style of wedding?
“Italy offers the best locations for quality weddings in Europe,” says James Lord, of Love & Lord. “It doesn’t really do the packaged beach wedding like Cyprus and Malta, but specialises in quality weddings in stunning properties and with the highest quality food and wine. You can choose between Renaissance villas, fairytale castles, Tuscan farmhouse estates or coastline hotels. This means Italy can accommodate any style of wedding.”
How long does it take to get there?
Most budget airlines, plus national carriers, fly to destinations all over Italy in just a few hours.
What time of year is best?
“The peak time for weddings is May to October,” says James. “If you don’t want it to be too hot, avoid July and August.” The season can inspire the style of the wedding, says Erica Bellini, of Tuscan Dreams (www.tuscan-dreams.com). “July is the time of sunflowers and they look wonderful as decorations in a rustic farmhouse. The countryside is at its best during May and June, with poppies colouring the fields red throughout June.
“A civil wedding in Italy is relatively straightforward compared to some other European countries,” says James. “It must happen in a town hall and you only need to be there a couple of days prior to the wedding to sign some documents.” UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office has useful information here
“Tuscany offers the greatest choice of options for weddings in Italy and across most budget ranges,” says James. “However if you want to overlook water, then the Amalfi Coast, Italian Riviera or The Lakes take some beating.”
